Today I met with a client who wanted her house to be organised and re-decorated. To become a HOME. As I walked through her house, which is beautifully made and with a lot of wonderful old things, I realised that the first obstacle to make this a home was to SERIOUSLY declutter the house. That's what we'll be doing next week!

Decluttering is not an easy task. It's not "just tidying up" or throwing things out. It's a serious exercise in keeping what is right and getting rid of (somehow) what might have served a purpose but is now ready for a life somewhere else. And then it's about reorganising what you have in order not to have to do the same exercise next month. We change then way we live. This takes a lot of thinking, observing and planning.

Parting with things makes it easier to part with our "past selves" and we get energy to invest more in relationships. We become more calm and it creates clarity, we get renewed energy, we become able to focus on the important things in life - and of course we also simply spend less time on searching for things... We stress a lot less when we live in an organised environment.

I am looking forward to the exercise of two whole days of decluttering before we go to the next level and actually re-decorate the house! Luckily I have a VERY organisational gene which will be truly satisfied by this exercise ;-)

Being of Scandinavian origin, I have to say. IKEA has something to offer when it comes to design. IF - and only IF - you know which of their products to choose (they still also sell a lot of crap ;-) ) and how to mix and match with other things (you don't want your home to look like a page from an IKEA catalogue!). Luckily, it will very soon be possible to shop online with IKEA and have things sent to Kenya! Watch out! I will update on that one....

I also do garden architecture. At our own house (still under construction, both house and garden), I love this growing hibiscus hedge with hibiscus in different colours. We have peach, pink, dark red, yellow, white... Once it grows, it will be absolutely fabulous!

Every house should have an orangerie... Especially in Nairobi! A place to be partly inside, party outside. To be in nature, yet within the convenience of your house. I bet you this will soon be your favourite spot in the whole house!

I have a true passion for interior design. And exterior design, for that matter (like your garden space!). In fact I often DREAM about it at night 😊 Being from Denmark (Scandinavia) I have been schooled in the cool minimalist style with great simple design. I know how to create the famous Danish 'hygge' and yet keep it simple and minimalist in style. However, I can do virtually all styles. My GREATEAST moments are when I can decorate in a bit rustic style, read colonial style, French country kitchen, Italian style bathrooms etc. Or a mix of Scandinavian minimalist style and "ethnic" African/Asian style. I LOVE mixing old and new when possible and to come with truly creative solutions whenever I can rather than just "pick a page from a design magazine." I would say that my touch is CLASSY - BUT NOT NECESSARILY EXPENSIVE! Let me decorate a room in your house, your whole house (e.g. also kitchen, bathrooms etc.), your outdoors space, your holiday cottage - what ever it is. Together we'll make it a HOME - not just a place you live....
