𝗙𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗳-𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗳𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗺𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗸𝗲𝘆𝗯𝗼𝗮𝗿𝗱: 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗴 𝗿𝗲𝗳𝘂𝗴𝗲𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗴𝗿𝗼𝘄𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗛𝗦𝗗.

The former participants of our SEL programme have now taken a new step: they are now learning computer skills at our centre.

These young people, who first learned to recognise and manage their emotions, are now discovering a powerful tool for their future: the computer. Mouse, keyboard, online research, documents; they are embracing these skills with curiosity and determination.

This progress is the result of collective effort. We extend our sincere congratulations to the entire HSD team for their daily commitment to these refugee children.

Our children from the Building Bridge Project (BBP) in the middle of cultural dance rehearsals.

We are proud to see each child embracing the rhythms and movements of their own culture, and sometimes even those of others.

These moments of sharing and transmission strengthen their identity and their openness to the world.

Culture, one more bridge to peace in Kakuma.

THEY WERE THE FIRST. THEY HAVE NOW BECOME THE GUIDES.

Today, the children from the very first cohort of our SEL programme (February 2025) came together for an important milestone: the election of their first committee. They themselves chose the name of their club the Peace Club – a name that reflects their commitment to peace and unity.

After a democratic vote, they elected a committee of 5 members: a President, a Vice‑President, a Secretary, and two Advisors made up of two boys and three girls, showing their dedication to balance and inclusion.

They then took part in a self‑awareness session led by our facilitator Ms. Fardose a moment to better understand themselves and support others.

Their mission: to represent HSD children, mentor younger siblings, reinforce SEL lessons, and pass on what they learn.

We are proud to see this first generation growing and becoming ambassadors of peace and knowledge in Kakuma.

The Peace Club is born. And it is in good hands.

A New Digital Skills Journey Begins.

Today, Human Shine Dreams officially launched a five-month Web Development training programme at our centre in Kakuma, in partnership with Power Learn Project (PLP).

Through this partnership, 60 young refugees will receive practical training in web development and digital skills, equipping them with the knowledge and confidence needed to become more competitive in the future world of work.

We are proud to partner with Power Learn Project to create meaningful pathways for refugee youth to develop digital skills, access opportunities, and build brighter futures.

We recently organised a dedicated SEL session for parents, focusing on their roles and responsibilities in their children's social-emotional development, as part of the Building Bridge Project (BBP).

Together, we explored key topics such as recognising and managing emotions, active listening, positive discipline, and the importance of a safe and nurturing home environment.

These discussions provided parents with practical tools to strengthen their bond with their children and support their daily growth.

We warmly thank all the parents for their active participation and their commitment to working alongside us.

Because an empowered parent is a confident parent, and a confident child is a child who grows in peace.

As part of our SEL programme, we brought together parents from the UPENDO Group for an interactive session focused on their role in the social-emotional development of children. Beyond the theoretical discussions, we organised games and dances led by our SEL Coordinator, Ms. Virginia.

This playful approach allowed parents to experience firsthand what their children feel during SEL sessions: the joy of feeling safe, the strength of being part of a group, and the importance of body movement in releasing emotions.

By dancing and playing together, parents strengthened their bond with one another and discovered simple tools to better support their children in everyday life.

Because a thriving parent is the first pillar of a child growing up with confidence.

This week, we organised a community session outside our centre an SEL activity right in the heart of the community, where children play, live, and breathe every day.

To make the event even more lively, our animation club was also present, bringing energy, music, and good vibes.
The programme included games, laughter, meaningful exchanges, and authentic moments of sharing. Seeing these children thrive beyond our walls reminds us that social-emotional learning knows no borders.

Thank you to them for their warm welcome and contagious joy. Thank you also to our animation club for this wonderful energy.

We go to them. We build bridges, wherever they are.

Every keystroke is a step toward freedom, every lesson a brick in their future.

These young refugee girls at Human Shine Dreams are proving that education knows no borders they are seizing the opportunity to learn, grow, and build the lives they deserve.

Because when a girl learns, she lifts not only herself but her entire community.
