"How much Japanese do I need to study to get a job in Japan?"
Q&A Corner (Part 1)
Today's question is from Nam-san.
Question:
I'm a new graduate from Vietnam. Can I get a job in Japan even if I'm not fluent in Japanese? I'd like to know more.
Advice:
Thank you for your question. It is very difficult for new graduates who can't speak Japanese to get a job in Japan. The reason is that many companies require good communication skills in Japanese.
1. Communication: In Japanese workplaces, most communication is done in Japanese, including daily tasks, meetings, and emails. If you lack Japanese language skills, you may not be able to communicate well with your colleagues and superiors, which may hinder your work performance.
2. Corporate culture: Japanese corporate culture is unique, especially in terms of communication and etiquette. If you don't know Japanese, you may have a hard time meeting these cultural expectations and having a hard time adapting to the workplace.
However, there are some ways you can get a job in Japan even if you're not fluent in Japanese.
1. IT/Technology field: In the IT/Engineering field, where technical skills are important, you may be hired even if you don't have Japanese language skills.
2. Learn Japanese: Learning Japanese and reaching at least a daily conversation level will greatly increase your chances of finding employment. We recommend that you improve your Japanese skills at a language school or online course.
In conclusion, it is very difficult to get a job in Japan as a new graduate without Japanese language skills, so we recommend that you learn Japanese as soon as possible.
