Sparsh Shah is an American rapper, singer, and songwriter who was born with a rare disease called osteogenesis imperfecta, also known as brittle bone disease. He has over 140 fractures and has undergone multiple surgeries. Despite his challenges, Sparsh is an inspiration to many. At the tender age of 6 months, when most of the infants would have not even learned to say ‘Maa’, Maitri Shah was diagnosed with the ‘Congenital Muscular Dystrophy’. Not the one to be defeated by any ailment, the fighter that Maitri is, rose like a phoenix and never had let this hinder her ambitions in life. Even though she was confined to a wheelchair, she refused to go to any ‘special schools’ and completed her education in a regular school, as she considered herself at par with everyone else.
Not the one to stop at anything, the young Maitri stood first in HSC MHT-CET examinations in PwD category (Maharashtra) after having scored a whopping 95.09% in her SSC examinations. As a step forward, she went onto graduate in Computer Engineering from the prestigious K.J. Somaiya College of Engineering (Mumbai).
Despite being the proverbial hard worker, the restless soul Maitri just could not sit back on her laurels, as she was always itching to do something for her fellow PwDs. The resultant was the formation of an NGO named ‘WoW’ (Wills on Wheels), which she co-founded. The basic aim of this NGO was to engage, educate and empower people on wheelchair.
If that wasn’t innovative and inventive enough, Maitri added yet another feather to her cap of overflowing achievements. This time around, she formed a tech start-up which, she very aptly named as ‘Mind Assets’. This company provides online training and new-age digital job opportunities to people with disability so that physical infrastructure is not a barrier to have a career.
Ever Since its inception in July 2017, ‘Mind Assets’ has successfully trained and employed 14 differently-abled individuals on the basis of their merit and is currently being incubated by ‘Riidl’ (the name of ‘Somaiya’s Incubation Cell’).
