You are aware that the lockdowns have become a political slugfest in the US and WHO’s complicity or inefficiency has only added to the confusion in other countries like India who look up to these for knowhow to manage the pandemic. However, there seems to be a never-ending debate there between those who are pro-opening and others who oppose - often against science and reason.

Realising that continued lockdowns may lead to even more loss of lives due to loss of livelihood in travel businesses and economy in general, Good Governance India Foundation (GGIF) founded by me in 2004, took upon itself the task of researching the case for lifting lockdowns. We got in touch with top medical professionals in India and abroad, for scientific opinion. We were surprised by the near unanimous opinion that now there is no scientific basis nor any case for continued lockdowns in any form. You may like to see the opinion piece published in The Print. Please circulate it as widely as you can and it will help if you ‘like’ the post if you like!

A Statement signed and supported by prominent doctors is published on Rational Health Response to COVID 19.

There is also an interesting litigation in the High Court of an important destination, on the question of whether travel and tourism should be allowed now. We have intervened in the litigation to help the court, with our arguments about why travel can no longer be restricted, as the (un)lockdown policies clearly state. Travel is a freedom that cannot and must not be curtailed permanently.

This mail is just to update you on what we are doing for the calibrated and careful reopening of travel, with confidence! We see significantly good support so far.

With some good luck and sense prevailing, we hope that lockdowns will be lifted more completely and travel eased even further in the coming months, helping us reopen - carefully yet confidently!
