: Test and price in India

Health Ministry has introduced a range of tests for COVID-19. But, RT-PCR (reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction) remains the gold standard of frontline testing for the novel coronavirus.

: A sample is collected from deep inside your nose and the back of your throat with a swab. The sample is then treated with chemical solutions that remove proteins and fats, leaving only the RNA present in the sample. The sample is then sent to the laboratory for analysis where an RT-PCR machine is used to detect the virus.

& COST: The real time RT-PCR technique can deliver a reliable diagnosis in as little as three hours, although laboratories take on average between six and eight hours. Until May-end, the ICMR had capped the cost of a test at Rs 4,500 for private laboratories, but has since removed the cap and allowed states to fix their own prices. The price for the test is now anywhere between Rs 2,200 and Rs 3,000.

How You Can Take Care Of Your Heart During Lockdown?

COVID-19 virus targets the lungs, and the situation can easily get exacerbated in a person with a diseased heart, which has to work twice as hard to provide oxygenated blood to other organs. The virus also poses a risk for people who have a fatty build-up known as plaque in their arteries, as evidence indicates similar viral illnesses can destabilize these plaques, potentially resulting in the blockage of an artery feeding blood to the heart, putting patients at risk of heart attack.

Thus, it has become crucial for people to step up and follow certain measures to ensure safety and good health during this time.

•Eating a healthy meal:
Heart patients need to be doubly careful about their eating habits in order to avoid further complications during this time. A regular meal should be packed with nutrients, carbs and vitamins. One should also focus on incorporating nuts, seeds, red, yellow and orange fruits and vegetables, along with turmeric and garlic into their diet.

• Get enough sleep and fluids:
focus on regularising sleep schedule and get the adequate amount of sleep required. Sleeping for too long can have negative effects on the body, which includes a heightened desire to consume excess sugary and salty foods, which can lead to further health complications. One should also stay adequately hydrated by drinking at least 8-9 glasses of water every day. This helps the body flush out toxins and maintains an efficient flow of blood in the body, which is crucial to transport nutrients to all vital organs, keeping them healthy and you too.

• Continue prescribed medication:
Those with pre-diagnosed heart issues should routinely follow their prescription of medication for hypertension, diabetes, cholesterol, angina and others, as recommended by their medical consultant.

• Moderate exercise at home:
Exercising at least 5 days a week is ideal as it keeps the metabolism running. One should eat a light fruit or some nuts before exercise and breathing practices should be followed.

ANXIETY & ANXIETY DISORDER

Anxiety is a normal reaction to many different kinds of events and situations in our lives. Anxiety is one of our internal warning systems that alerts us to danger or other threats and prepares our bodies to fight back or get out of a dangerous situation.
Anxiety is a problem when it becomes overwhelming or unmanageable and it comes up unexpectedly. Anxiety disorders are mental illnesses that have a big impact your life.

Normal anxiety...

• Is related to a specific situation or problem.
• Lasts only as long as the situation or problem.
• Is proportional to the situation or problem.
• Is a realistic response to a realistic problem or situation.

When someone experiences an anxiety disorder...

• Anxiety may come up unexpectedly, for seemingly no reason.
• The anxiety response to a situation or problem may be much stronger that they would expect.
• They may experience a lot of unrealistic anxiety, such as fear of a situation that likely will never happen.
• Anxiety may last for a long time, even when the situation or problem has been resolve
• Anxiety may feel impossible to control or manage.
• They may avoid situations or things that they believe to trigger anxiety symptoms.

Here’s an example of normal anxiety and an anxiety disorder. Many people are a bit nervous about flying, which is a totally normal reaction. Yet, if they have to travel for work, they can can get on a plane without any problems. Someone with an anxiety disorder, on the other hand, may not be able to travel to the airport—even if it puts their job in jeopardy.

Lockdown: Fear of weight gain??

As we've been in lockdown for last two months, Some of us are worrying about gaining weight.
This is particularly true for active working individuals, who now face a double whammy of not being able to exercise along with unfettered access to food at home.
There'r some tips given below to prevent or reduce the chances of weight gain during this lockdown:

With no options of eating out, we are restricted to home food – which tends to be healthier, low calorie and low trans-fat. To gain further advantage from this, we can resort to lower calorie snacks and food items such as sprouts or salads as a replacement for the usual fried (pakoda, samosa, vada) options.

As many people are doing work from home and they've lost their daily routine plan. Now, all you to need is to set a daily routine for eating at time. You can start by having breakfast at the same time, daily. Plan your lunch and afternoon snack. This will also ensure that you don’t have a heavy dinner, and you don’t stuff yourself with food before heading to bed. Scheduling and deciding your meal plans will train your mind to be hungry and regular intervals.

Be mindful of how much you consume
Mindless eating is the worst because you are consuming way too many calories without paying much attention, and before you know it you have gained a lot of weight.
So, you must keep that yourself busy and find joy in activities that don’t involve food.

Since we are completely homebound, we need to adopt exercises suitable for restricted areas. These could include simpler and less aggressive forms such as static running, skipping, etc., or more aggressive forms such as crunches Pilates, or yoga.

7 Soft Skills Needed In Health Care
----------
Employers are often looking for soft skills in addition to qualifications. In many professions, including health care, your soft skills can help your career progression over time more than your technical skills.

Interpersonal Skills---

•Empathy:
In health care, it’s important that you can empathize with patients and the difficult situations that others are facing

•Communication Skills:
The core of many workplaces is communication, but for health care workers it’s even more important. Health care workers need to speak with patients and their families in addition to routinely communicating with coworkers

•Teamwork:
An important trait in health care workers is a team player attitude. Many health care fields are like team sports, with many people working toward patient care.

Personal Skills---

•Work Ethic:
Work ethic is a set of values based on hard work. There are many components of work ethic, including professionalism, punctuality, your overall attitude and behavior. Some businesses define work ethic as the belief in the moral benefit and importance of work and its inherent ability to strengthen character

•Stress Management:
In health care, literally, lives could be at stake. That’s a lot of pressure to have to handle. According to studies, health care workers are at high risk of burnout if they do not have proper stress-management techniques.5 Burnout is the experience of long-term exhaustion and diminished interest in work.

•Positive Attitude:
All employees can benefit from a positive mental attitude but in health care, this soft skill is particularly useful. Because of the demands of the job, the stress of teamwork, and the frequent meetings with patients, it’s important that health care workers keep a sunny outlook.

•Flexibility:
Because many careers in health care don’t stick to typical 9-to-5 hours, flexibility is key to working on a team. Your peers may need you to pick up a shift or stay late. A demanding patient may take up more of your day than you planned for.

If not MBBS, what else?

It's a dream of many children to be a doctor.
Unfortunately in India, the number of seats available for the 5.5-year MBBS degree is limited to about 50,000 all over India. At the same time, medical studies are much more exhaustive, requiring large portions to be covered, clinical work, and finally, a rigorous year of internship. Hence, many of them give up their hope of getting into the medical profession and move on to something they are not very passionate about.

But many people aren't aware that doing MBBS isn't the only way to became a medical professional.
One can get into any of Ayurveda course, which are now regularised by the government and offered as full-fledged professional courses.BHMS (Bachelor of Homeopathic Medicine and Surgery), BAMS (Bachelor of Ayurvedic M&S), BUMS (Bachelor of Unani M&S) or BNYS (Bachelor of Naturopathy & Yogic Sciences). Each of these are for the same duration as MBBS, and are followed by an internship. There are three-year postgraduate MD courses also in each of these fields.

For those who wish to work in the health sector in Allopathic Science, there are options such as the five-year BDS (Bachelor of Dental Surgery), after which they can specialise in the three-year MDS course in oral, orthodontic, periodontic, prosthetic or maxillo-facial surgeries.

=Paramedical courses

These are those degrees that offer direct admission to students who have completed 10+2 with PCB, and no minimum marks stipulated. They are:

Physiotherapy (BPT) and Occupational Therapy (BOT) — four and a half years
Bachelor of Speech Language Pathology & Audiology (BSLPA) — four years
BSc in Radiography, Optometry, Medical Lab, Operation Theatre Tech, Cardiac, Dialysis Tech, Public Health, Nuclear medicine, Orthotics & Prosthetics, Sports Science ,etc.

=Diploma courses are also available in most paramedical streams, mostly after PUC, but a few are offered after Class 10 also. The duration is two to three years.
Unlike in the past, paramedical professionals now have good opportunities to do high-tech work with good remuneration.

Precautions that you need to take while resuming work from office after lockdown:

1. Wear mask & glove when you're leaving for offfice. Think of them as your bodily extensions which cannot be left home at any cost. Keep on replacing them at relative intervals.

2. Sanitise your hands after roughly every alien surface you happen to touch, in buses or trains or even inside the cab.

3. Use a private vehicle if possible or make sure the transport you’re taking has social distancing measures well at its place.

4. Don’t touch your face, mouth or nose, as this might increase the risk of infection.

5. Make sure, you do not sneeze or cough in open. Carry a small packet of tissues or handkerchief and keep on replacing them during relevant intervals.

6. Ensure that every employee gets his/her temperature checked before entering the office premises.

7. Carry your stationery from home to reduce the risk of being contaminated through office stationery you don’t know who else has touched before.

8. Prefer not to eat from outside.

9. Sanitise your hands every now and then, and ensure supremely precautious surroundings in office washrooms.

10. If you find any COVID symptoms – cold, fever, breathlessness or loss of sense of taste or smell – stop going to the office with immediate effect and seek medical health, and tell others to do the same if it happens to them as well.
