The Battery Operated Rickshaw (locally called Chetak e- rickshaw ) is newly added mode of Para-transit in urban transportation system of India. From the very beginning of introducing, the mode is being used as a popular transport mode especially by the lower, lower- middle and even middle income people of urban India as the mode involves lower travel cost as well as provides much more safety and c
onvenience to the users during travel, than other public transports modes. It reduces air pollution since there is no such emission from the Battery operated rickshaws as compared to auto-rickshaws using petrol/Diesel/CNG/Kerosene & un-burnt oil. Battery operated rickshaw generates employment for economically challenged people and provides them a platform to support their families and employment to them. It helps the economically weaker section of the society to live a life of respect and dignity. The use of battery and electric power helps in preserving the atmosphere as there is no pollution of any kind. The battery operated rickshaw is a faster mode of transportation than manual rickshaw (For Jabalpur, Satna, shahdol etc where Pedal Rickshaw’s are still in practice).
