GIZ Indonesia & ASEAN GIZ - Working for a future worth living around the world. In crises, we carry out refugee and emergency aid programmes.

GIZ operates in many fields: economic development and employment promotion; governance and democracy; security, reconstruction, peacebuilding and civil conflict transformation; food security, health and basic education; and environmental protection, resource conservation and climate change mitigation. We also support our partners with management and logistical services, and act as an intermediary,

balancing diverse interests in sensitive contexts. As part of our services, we also second development workers to partner countries. Through programmes for integrated and returning experts, we place managers and specialist personnel in key positions in partner countries. We also promote networking and dialogue among actors in international cooperation. Capacity development for partner-country experts is a major component of our services, and we offer our programme participants diverse opportunities to benefit from the contacts they have made. We also give young people a chance to gain professional experience around the world – exchange programmes for young professionals lay the foundations for successful careers in national and international markets.

Indonesia is building its green workforce for 2045

The Indonesia Green Workforce Development Roadmap 2025–2045 has been launched as a national strategic guide to prepare skilled workers across sectors for the energy transition and green economy — inclusively and equitably. The roadmap is grounded in Law No. 59/2024 on the RPJPN 2025–2045 and aligned with Presidential Regulation No. 12/2025 on the RPJMN 2025–2029, placing green workforce development at the heart of Indonesia’s national development agenda.

To ensure stronger implementation, the roadmap is being elevated into a Presidential Regulation, giving it formal legal force, clarifying Bappenas’s coordinating role, and directing ministries and agencies to integrate TKHI into their sectoral plans. A Regulatory Impact Analysis (RIA) has been completed to assess policy options and guide decision-makers. The RIA found that the key challenge is on building the system capacity to implement policies in an integrated and consistent way. As a follow up, a Focus Group Discussion with relevant ministries and agencies is being held to validate findings, gather cross-sectoral input, and strengthen the quality of regulation and implementation on Tuesday, 26 May 2026 in Jakarta.

The discussion was opened by the Director for Employment of Bappenas lead by regulatory experts and GIZ under GESIT project. During the session several major inputs were received such as:
1. Strengthening Governance and Regulation
2. Strengthening the Certification System and Competency Database
3. Curriculum Synchronization and Industry Needs
4. Career Development and Green Workforce Inclusivity

From sunlight to system ☀️⚡

Yesterday (21 May 2026), stakeholders from the Government of Indonesia, PLN, development partners, and energy experts came together in the discussion panel “From Sunlight to System: Strengthening Indonesia’s Energy Future.”

The discussion explored how solar energy can play a greater role in strengthening Indonesia’s future energy system, not only through increasing renewable energy capacity, but also by improving grid readiness, procurement processes, utilisation of various solar PV technologies, and regulatory frameworks.

With Indonesia’s solar energy potential reaching 3,294 GW, collaboration and innovation will be key to accelerating a cleaner and more sustainable energy future.

The 10th ASEAN Entities Forum brought together hundreds of participants from across ASEAN to strengthen collaboration, exchange ideas, and advance a more connected, inclusive, and resilient region. More than a forum, it was a celebration of partnership, dialogue, and shared purpose.

Supported by the German Federal Foreign Office through GIZ, this year’s Forum also marked 10 years of the ASEAN–Germany Development Partnership, a decade of growing together through cooperation, trust, and shared commitment to ASEAN Vision 2045.

Together toward a Just Energy Transition 🌍⚡️

On 19 May 2026, South-South Triangular Cooperation (SSTC) on Renewable Energy officially opened in Lombok, bringing together partners from Indonesia, Madagascar, Nepal, Kenya, and Germany to exchange practical lessons and strengthen collaboration for a more inclusive and resilient energy transition.

From policy dialogue to peer learning and networking, the opening marked an important step in turning shared ambitions into concrete action, especially for renewable energy solutions that can support communities and island systems.

In the beginning of May 2026, Germany through GIZ supported the AHA Centre in running Basic and Advanced First Aid Training for its staff in Cilegon, Banten. More than just a skills workshop, this is part of Germany’s long-standing commitment to strengthen the institutional capacity of the AHA Centre. As the stronger the AHA Centre, the better prepared the region in facing disaster.

The training also came at a significant moment in the relationship between Germany and the AHA Centre. Since 2020, Germany through GIZ has been a committed partner, and that partnership has grown deeper over the years. With Phase III of the Institutional Strengthening and Capacity Development Project, funded by the German Federal Foreign Office, came to an end, GIZ and the AHA Centre reflected the journey collaboratively.

The Project Closure & Learning Workshop was more than a closing event. It was a chance to look back at what we achieved together, what could have been done differently, and what the partnership has built over the years. Those reflections and recommendations will help shape how Germany continues to support the AHA Centre going forward. As the end of a project phase is never really an ending, it's a foundation for what comes next.
