Dear fellow domestic helpers,

Caring for young children is a precious but challenging job.
We want to remind everyone that child abuse is a serious criminal offence in Hong Kong. Even pinching a child counts as child abuse. Anyone who ill‑treats a child will face prosecution, and may receive a prison sentence, visa cancellation and deportation.

**Do not be mistaken: even if there is no CCTV recording, the Hong Kong Police will conduct a full investigation into the cause of the child’s injury when only you and the child were present. Nothing can be hidden.**

There was a recent case where a domestic helper was charged with child cruelty after a 4‑month‑old baby suffered brain haemorrhage. The maximum punishment for this offence is 10 years’ imprisonment.

Another recent real‑life news report from *The Standard*:
A 37‑year‑old Filipina domestic helper was arrested in Kowloon City over alleged assault on a 5‑year‑old boy in her care. The boy suffered facial pain and was sent to Queen Elizabeth Hospital for examination. The helper was arrested on suspicion of child cruelty and the case is under police investigation.

When you feel tired, frustrated or stressed while working, please find a proper way to release your pressure. Reach out to someone you trust instead of hurting the child.

🙏 Prayer for my September batch of new applicants starting work in Hong Kong.

Heavenly Father,

We lift up this September batch of applicants, as they begin their new chapter and work in Hong Kong, far away from their loved ones back home.

Thank You for bringing them safely to this city. Grant them peace in this new environment, courage to adapt, and good health each day. Wrap them in Your protection wherever they go.

Give them gentle hands, a patient heart and strength for their daily duties. May their employers' homes be a safe, kind and respectful place for them to live and serve. Bless the relationship between employer and helper, filled with trust, understanding and harmony.

Lord, watch over their family in their homeland. Supply their needs, keep them safe, and ease their homesickness when they miss them. Let them know they are never alone, for You walk beside them every day.

May whatever they do, they do it wholeheartedly, as unto the Lord.

✨ Mid-Autumn Festival / Full Moon Festival ✨

What is Mid-Autumn Festival?

Sept 25 (Fri) is Mid-Autumn Festival. It is a traditional Chinese festival about family reunion and harvest blessing. It falls on the 15th day of the 8th lunar month, when the moon is fullest and brightest. Families gather, admire the full moon, share fruits and mooncakes.
Round mooncakes symbolise togetherness, just like the full moon. We also eat seasonal fruits like pomelo, grapes and persimmons — these fruits are special for this harvest season and represent abundance and blessings for the family.

May this season remind us of God’s faithfulness, provision and family love.
“He made the moon to mark the seasons; the sun knows its time for setting.”

📌 Important Holiday Reminder for all FDHs:
Next day after Mid-Autumn Festival is a statutory holiday in Hong Kong. Every helper must be given this holiday day off.
👉 If your weekly rest day is Saturday and Mid-Autumn Festival falls on that Saturday: you are entitled to the next day (Sunday) as your substitute weekly holiday.
👉 Employers may arrange an alternative substituted holiday on another day (at employer’s discretion), which is allowed under Hong Kong labour law.
👉 Wage note:
If you have worked less than 3 months continuously before this statutory holiday: you still get the holiday day off, but this statutory holiday is unpaid. Employer can deduct one day’s salary for this unpaid statutory holiday.
Once you complete 3 months of continuous employment, statutory holidays become paid.

A Serious Reminder to Every Domestic Helper 🙏

One of my applicants, C, just had a brain haemorrhage after returning from her day off. She has high blood pressure but did not take her medicine regularly. Now she is in ICU, fighting for her life.

Please, take your medication on time — every single day.
Do not skip it just because you feel fine. High blood pressure is a silent killer; stroke can strike without warning. Your body is your responsibility. Look after yourself — your family back home is counting on you.

Let us pray for C and her family. May God have mercy and heal her.
