At least 20 employers of foreign domestic helpers have recently sought help from council members and organizations. They reported that the helpers fell victim to online loan scams, where inquiries with online finance companies turned into loans. Ultimately, the workers were unable to repay, leading to employers being harassed with threats and debt collection methods.

Around 20 victimised employers reported that their foreign domestic helpers were attracted by online loan ads under various pretexts. They filled out so-called "loan inquiry forms," and once submitted, the company claimed approval and immediately deposited funds into their bank accounts. The workers unknowingly took out high-interest loans and, even after repayment, faced difficulties, resulting in employers being harassed with threats and debt collection tactics.

The finance companies, besides splashing red paint on employers' residences or neighbors and posting debt collection notices, have coerced some foreign domestic helpers into providing family photos of their employers. Debt collectors then manipulated these images into explicit photos as a threat, forcing employers to settle the debts incurred by the workers' scams. This aims to extract money through deceit, damaging the harmony of the employers' families and neighborhoods.
