"Can Mum or Dad really stay at home?"

It's an understandable question.

As someone's needs increase, families can feel that moving somewhere else is inevitably the next step.

But it isn't always.

For some people, live-in care can provide the reassurance and support they need while allowing them to remain surrounded by everything that's familiar.

Their own bed.

Their garden.

Their neighbours.

Their pets.

Their routines.

Their memories.

Most importantly, they can continue living their life rather than having to fit into somebody else's.

Every family's circumstances are different, and live-in care won't be the answer for everyone.

But if you're beginning to wonder whether someone you love can continue living safely and happily at home, it's worth knowing what the options are.

Sometimes the answer to "Can they stay?" might just be yes.

What makes a good day at work?

For a Care Professional, the answer isn't always what you might expect.

It might be helping someone regain the confidence to do something for themselves.

Getting a client laughing about something completely ridiculous.

Realising you've remembered exactly how someone likes their tea.

Being the familiar face someone was genuinely pleased to see.

Or finishing your day knowing that someone else's was a little better because you were part of it.

Care is skilled work, and we're increasingly passionate about recognising it as a genuine career.

But perhaps one of its greatest rewards is much simpler.

Your work matters to somebody.

We're looking for thoughtful, curious and compassionate people to join our growing team. Experience is welcome, but we're just as interested in the person you are and the person you could become.

Sometimes staying independent isn't about what you can do around the house.

It's about still having reasons to leave it.

Meeting someone for coffee.

Going into town.

Visiting a garden centre.

Getting your hair done.

Taking a walk somewhere you love.

Or simply deciding it's far too nice a day to stay indoors.

As people get older, those everyday connections can gradually become harder. Perhaps someone stops driving, loses confidence going out alone or simply needs a little support to make things possible.

That's where companionship can make such a difference.

Good care shouldn't make someone's world smaller.

We think it should help keep it open.

đź’™ Where would you choose to go if someone said, "Right, we're going out for the afternoon"?

Imagine being really good at making ordinary days better.

Not through grand gestures.

Perhaps it's encouraging someone to get outside when they haven't felt like it lately.

Remembering something they told you last week.

Helping someone regain the confidence to do something for themselves.

Or simply arriving with enough time and curiosity to ask, "How are you?" and actually listen to the answer.

There is real skill in doing those things well.

Care can be challenging. We shouldn't pretend otherwise.

But it can also give you something many people spend their working lives searching for: the knowledge that what you did today mattered to another person.

We're looking for people who want to develop those skills and build a career around them.

You don't necessarily need previous care experience.

You do need to be interested in people.

Could that be you?

We've been talking recently about why care should be recognised as a skilled profession.

Part of that means recognising that becoming a great Care Professional doesn't finish when initial training does.

There is always more to learn.

About dementia.

Medication.

Communication.

Technology.

Safeguarding.

Supporting independence.

And, perhaps most importantly, about people.

We want people to be able to look at care and see somewhere they can grow.

To gain qualifications.

Develop specialist knowledge.

Take on more responsibility.

Support colleagues.

And, if they want to, progress into leadership.

But progression doesn't always have to mean getting a different job title.

Becoming exceptionally good at the job you're already doing is progression too.

Care deserves people who are proud of their skills and organisations prepared to invest in developing them.

If that sounds like the sort of career you're looking for, we'd love to hear from you.

One of the things we're becoming increasingly interested in isn't just what someone can bring to a career in care.

It's who they can bring.

The person who loves gardening.

The amateur baker.

The football supporter.

The person who knows every song from the 1970s.

The dog lover.

The person who's endlessly curious about other people's stories.

Because when you're supporting another human being, those parts of your personality aren't irrelevant to the job.

They can be some of your greatest strengths.

Training matters and developing professional skills matters enormously.

But great care also comes from two people finding something they can connect over.

So perhaps a career in care doesn't require you to leave your personality at the door.

Quite the opposite.

We'd like you to bring it with you.

If you're curious about whether a career in care could be for you, we'd love to have a conversation.

Training isn't where a career in care ends.

It's where it starts.

Learn.

Develop.

Gain qualifications.

Build specialist knowledge.

Support others.

Progress if you want to.

Or become exceptionally good at the role you already love.

Care is a skilled profession.

We should treat careers in it accordingly.

What makes a really good care visit?
Of course, there may be practical things that need doing.
But we'd hope it's also about what happens around them.
A conversation about something that happened yesterday.
Remembering that the tomatoes need checking.
Noticing the sun is shining and suggesting a few minutes in the garden.
Knowing how someone likes their tea without having to ask.
Perhaps even having a laugh about something completely unimportant.
Great care should help someone feel safe and supported, but it should also help them continue to feel like themselves.
That's why getting to know someone really matters.
The care plan tells us what support someone needs.
The person tells us who they are.
And there's quite a difference between the two.

Mental wellbeing doesn't always begin with something clinical.

Sometimes it begins with having something to look forward to.

A familiar face arriving on Tuesday afternoon.

Someone to go for a coffee with.

A reason to put your coat on and get out of the house.

A conversation that lasts longer than expected.

We sometimes underestimate how much our routines, relationships and sense of purpose contribute to feeling well.

As we get older, some of those connections can gradually disappear. Retirement, bereavement, reduced mobility or simply no longer driving can make someone's world smaller without anyone really noticing it happening.

That's why companionship can be such an important part of care at home.

It isn't simply “keeping someone company”.

At its best, it's helping someone stay connected to the person they've always been and to the places, people and experiences they still enjoy.

💙 What’s something in your week that you always look forward to?

We talk a lot in care about looking after people.

Perhaps we don't talk quite enough about looking after the people doing the caring.

Care can be enormously rewarding, but it asks a lot of you too.

You're dealing with people all day, sometimes at difficult or vulnerable moments in their lives. You listen. You reassure. You problem-solve. You carry responsibility.

That emotional side of care is one of the reasons we're putting more thought into what it should actually feel like to work here.

Support shouldn't simply mean having someone to phone when something goes wrong.

It should mean feeling listened to.

Knowing someone notices when you've had a difficult day.

Having opportunities to learn and progress.

Feeling that your ideas matter.

And being part of a team rather than simply receiving a rota.

We're still developing and learning ourselves, but one of the principles we're increasingly committed to is simple: if we want people to provide exceptional care, we have to take exceptional care of our people too.

If that sounds like the kind of team you'd like to be part of, we'd love to hear from you.
