We love this quote and often use it in our transformation sessions. How often do you look back and see just what you’ve achieved and take the time congratulate yourself/your team/your partner etc. Go on - it’ll put a smile on your face. 😁

It can be difficult to maintain engagement when your team or workforce is disparate and separated by location. If you’re in the business of managing people – and meeting your own business-related targets – you need to make sure that your people feel included in target setting, performance measurement, decision making and overall outcomes.

The way this is done will depend on the culture and working practices of each organisation – and even each team within the organisation, but there are some key principles that you can follow:

· Decide key objectives and targets for the team and for individuals
· Check in with remote or home-based workers on a regular basis and ensure they feel involved
· Put a feedback process in place that makes employees comfortable to raise issues or ask questions, wherever they are based.
· Be prepared to handle conflict or difficult conversations in a positive, thoughtful way
· Try not to micromanage – trust your team to be productive, do their work and deliver to their targets

If you need support with new processes or leadership training to help manage engagement with hybrid teams, just get in touch.

We are delighted and humbled to support this amazing charity raising money with a half marathon. Joining Business BASE and meeting such great business owners who have also supported them has been so rewarding.

Check out Carli Lansley Foundation - "keeping young hearts healthy" and the great work they do and if you can, please donate.

Here is a photo of Jess and Ethan holding up our charity's amazing running shirts, which have been specially produced for the Southend half-marathon on June 12

Jess and Ethan are pictured with Matthew Bradford from Natural Print Solutions (https://www.facebook.com/NaturalPrintSolutions).

Matthew very generously offered to cover all the costs of purchasing the shirts and printing our logo on the front

On the back of the shirts, we are extremely grateful to 11 other sponsors who also wanted to support our Foundation in the half-marathon

So, we say a huge ‘THANK YOU' to the following businesses:-

Do you have an absence management policy? Whilst most absence is absolutely genuine, there may be occasions where you have to confront persistent absence and find a resolution with your employee.

Having a clear policy that employees can refer to when they join your business can help to set expectations, show employees how to manage their absences and set out the procedure for tackling persistent absence.

Designing and implementing this policy with both empathy and practical concern for the business means that you can support your employees where needed, and protect the business where the absence is having a negative effect.

We’d be interested to hear how you are currently managing absence issues – let us know in the comments below.

I love visiting Flatford Mill - such a tranquil and relaxing area and a really good place to get some headspace! As we head towards a bank holiday weekend, and the end of Stress Awareness Month, a quick reminder that nature is great for helping with stress and re-setting ourselves.

A study in Frontiers in Psychology showed that spending just 20 minutes connecting with nature can help to lower stress hormone levels.

Walking, or just sitting, in a more natural environment can do wonders for the way you feel. That’s why it’s so important to have public open spaces like parks, or ways to get away from the hubbub of the city.

So, this weekend, if you’ve had a busy or stressful first quarter of the year, why not take the time to get out and enjoy nature – in your garden, in the park, by the river – wherever you can find a bit of space to relax and take it in. Where do you love to go?

How important are those ‘water cooler’ conversations to helping us manage stress at work? Tomorrow is National Tea Day, and although I’m not a tea drinker, I do know that chatting in the kitchen, or being part of a group that shares the tea and coffee making is a big part of the social side of being at work.

And yet, with remote and hybrid working, and people more conscious about kitchen hygiene, I wonder if we’re losing some of that natural stress-reliever that comes with a quick break, or bumping into someone in the corridor and having a quick chat?

As we go through Stress Awareness Month, it’s important to encourage those ‘non-work’ interactions – they help us to feel relaxed and part of the business. And they help to form important bonds with our colleagues that can be important for productivity and creativity too.

So, make your colleague a cuppa, and let me know how you feel about the water cooler conversation!
