You'll be involved in month-end reporting, journals, reconciliations and supporting the wider finance team.

We’re recruiting an Insurance Sales Consultant for a growing business offering full training, hybrid working and genuine scope to develop.

Your job is fine. So why are you wondering what else is out there?

Sometimes that’s the hardest point to reach.

Will your team need to look a little different by the end of the year?

It doesn’t always take someone leaving to make you realise you need to recruit.

Perhaps the business is growing, responsibilities are changing, there’s a new project ahead, or you can already see that you’re going to need different skills within the team.

A good place to start is with December and work backwards.

What would you like to be happening in the business by then? What could a new person take ownership of? What do they genuinely need to know from day one, and what could they learn from you?

And then there’s the person themselves.

Experience matters, but so does how someone works, what motivates them and whether their personality and approach will complement the people already around them.

Getting clear on this now gives you time to find the right person, rather than simply needing to find someone later.

And you don’t need to have an immediate vacancy to do that.

Perhaps the business is growing, responsibilities are changing, a new project is coming up, or you can already see that your team will need something different over the next few months.

Starting with where you want the business to be by December — and working backwards — can help you understand what you actually need from your next hire.

What will they need to take ownership of? What can they learn once they join? Which experience is essential from day one? And what kind of person will work well within the team you already have?

Then there’s the practical timing. Interviews, notice periods and settling into a new business all need to be factored in.

These are the conversations Helen has with businesses before the search for candidates begins.

Because the goal isn’t simply to have somebody sitting at a desk by December. It’s to understand what your business needs next and find someone with the skills, strengths and approach to genuinely contribute to it.
