We were PROPA buzzing to attend the pro-manchester Property and Regeneration Lunch at the Royal Nawaab Pyramid last week, and as always, the food did not disappoint! 🍽️

The highlight of the afternoon was an incredible fireside chat hosted by Euan Kellie with Sir Alan Cockshaw, reflecting on the regeneration of Manchester following the 1996 bombing, 30 years on. It was inspiring to hear how far the city has come and the vision and determination that got it there.

The panel discussion on what’s next for Manchester - with Tom Bloxham, Karen Hirst, Tom Webber and Miri Thomas - gave us plenty to think about. The ambition for this city is something else!!

Lovely to see Sally Ann Smith, Helen Capiter, Becki Petrondas, Kate Pexton and Rachel Tetlow, and wonderful to meet so many new faces too.

A huge well done to Tasmin Wallaston and the whole pro-manchester team for pulling together such a brilliant event. 👏

Today is World Mental Health Day. And we want to talk about something that doesn’t get said enough in the property world!

Your team’s mental health is your responsibility as an employer. Not just in a tick box, send round a leaflet kind of way. In a real, day to day, how are you actually managing your people kind of way.

The targets you set. The hours you expect. The culture you allow to exist. The way managers speak to their teams. All of it has an impact.

We regularly speak to candidates who are looking to leave somewhere that has ground them down. And we speak to employers who genuinely want to do better but aren’t sure where to start.

We PROPA care about the people we work with, not just whether they can do the job, but how they are doing full stop. 🎙️ "We really need to recruit new people into our team, we've got a massive flow of incoming leads, business is booming and we need more hands on deck. We're finding it hard to recruit because we don't offer hybrid working and our competitors do. How can we overcome this?"

Not being able to offer hybrid working is a real challenge in the current market and Sophie Booth and Sarah Hardy are not going to pretend otherwise. But they do have some honest thoughts on what you can do!

We recently attended a brilliant pro-manchester event - From Offer to Impact: Getting Onboarding and Probation Right, hosted at the brilliant of Social in Manchester.

A really interactive and genuinely useful session all about managing new starters and probationary periods well, with legal changes coming in January 2027 that every employer needs to be across. It was delivered brilliantly by the Cornerstone Resources HR Consultancy team and we came away with lots to think about.

Oh and the chicken caesar wraps were absolutely incredible!! 🌯

A huge well done to Nicci, Rob and Josh - you smashed it. And thank you as always to pro-manchester for bringing the right people together in the right rooms.

🎙️ "My basic has always been really low, under minimum wage, with commission I have always earned mid to late £20s. They have now upped the basic to minimum wage but capped the commission. Is this a thing across the whole industry?"

Short answer - no, it is not standard and you deserve better than that.
