🏗️ New right-to-work rules are now in force.

Recent changes mean contractors must now carry out the appropriate right-to-work checks on self-employed workers, bringing these requirements more in line with those for employees.

🔨 Candidate Success Story: Rob

Sometimes, a 3-week contract can be the start of something much bigger.

This time 3 years ago, Rob joined one of our clients as a Multiskilled Joiner on an initial 3-week contract.

After proving himself on site through his hard work, reliability and the quality of his work, the contract was extended and in June this year, Rob made the move into a permanent position with the company. 👏

Now, 3 years on from that initial placement, Rob is still going strong and has become a valued member of the team.

It’s a great example of how temporary contracts can lead to long-term opportunities when the right candidate meets the right company.

Last week, Ryan interviewed four candidates for a position we have live with Casey Group.

Alongside the role, we wanted to offer a one-week work placement to someone looking to get into construction.

Meet Connor. 👋

At just 21, Connor already has a real passion for construction and the rail sector, with ambitions of becoming a site engineer one day. But what really stood out to me was his work ethic.

Since 16, he’s volunteered at the Lancashire Mining Museum, and this year he spent five months volunteering in Huddersfield — travelling nearly 1 hour 30 minutes each way, every day to do it.

That level of commitment told me everything I needed to know.

So when I found out the Casey Group project was just five minutes from his home, I knew he deserved the opportunity.

And he’s already doing really well. 👏

The pictures say it all, from interview to working on site.

A huge thank you to Casey for continuing to create opportunities for young people across Wigan and Leigh.

This is what meaningful social value in construction looks like.

🏠 Help to Buy is making a comeback, but what could it mean for construction?

The government’s proposed Your First Home scheme is designed to help more first-time buyers purchase new-build homes, potentially increasing demand across the housebuilding sector.

For construction, that could mean more homes being built, more projects getting underway and, importantly, greater demand for the people needed to deliver them. 👷‍♂️🏗️

From skilled trades and site management to surveying, engineering and commercial roles, a boost in housebuilding could have a knock-on effect across the wider construction workforce.

With housing delivery and workforce availability already major talking points across the industry, it’ll be interesting to see what impact the scheme has once the details are confirmed.
