The Why 💜
In June, a team from Adele Carr will be taking on the National 3 Peaks Challenge to raise money for Teenage Cancer Trust
We wanted to share why this matters so much to us as a business.
Our owner, Adele, has very kindly shared her family’s experience and the impact this incredible charity has had on them. Her son, James, was diagnosed with cancer in 2023.
Adele’s Story:
“James was diagnosed with Synovial Sarcoma in December 2023, and our world was turned upside down. We were told he would need six rounds of intense chemotherapy at Alder Hey, followed by 49 days of radiotherapy at The Christie in Manchester, and finally surgery at the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital in Birmingham.
The Teenage Cancer Trust were with us from day one. When James started treatment, the TCT room at Alder Hey was a blessing while we waited for a ward room. It had a pool table, Xbox and jukebox, and we met other teenagers going through treatment, along with their parents. Sharing experiences and tips helped us more than we can put into words.
Fay from TCT visited James straight away and was a constant source of support, always checking in on him.
At The Christie, the TCT room again provided a calm and welcoming space while waiting for treatment, somewhere James could spend time with other young people, with refreshments and activities available.
In Birmingham, James was introduced to his nurse, Jane, who was fully funded by TCT. She was another constant source of support. James had access to a private TCT room, where we could stay with him, and we were all looked after so well.
In summary, TCT made us feel supported every step of the way. For James, it meant being treated like an adult, always having someone to talk to, being invited to social events, and never feeling alone. Thankfully, James is now in remission, but his support team are still in touch. As a family, we will be eternally grateful for the support and guidance we received.”
