Let's be honest… in some households, the person really running the show has four legs and a rather waggy tail! 🐶

From the dog who insists on supervising every activity to the one who believes every visitor has come specifically to see them, our four-legged friends certainly have their own ideas about how a household should run.

And when it comes to working in a private home, pets can be an important part of the picture.

Some families need staff who are happy around dogs, comfortable with cats or willing to lend a hand with the occasional muddy paw print!

Children grow up in the blink of an eye. The school plays, the first goals, the late-night chats over dinner, the "Mum, Dad, watch this!" moments. These are the things that matter most.

I know because I lived it. I spent years juggling work with football matches, clubs and diaries that looked like a game of Tetris. 📅😅

We’re looking for an exceptional Housekeeper/Cook to join a beautiful private country home near Mayfield, East Sussex.

This is a lovely long-term opportunity for someone who genuinely takes pride in their work and understands the difference between simply cleaning a house and looking after a home.

🏡 3 days a week | Live-out
📅 Monday, Wednesday & Friday
⏰ 9am–3pm
💷 £130–£150 per visit, depending on experience

The home is a beautiful period property with antiques, fine furniture, artwork and treasured possessions, so we’re looking for someone who understands the care and attention these homes require.

The role includes:

✨ High-standard housekeeping throughout the home
✨ Caring for antiques, fine furniture, marble, silver and artwork
✨ Laundry, ironing and beautiful linens
✨ Making beds and maintaining bedrooms to an exceptional standard
✨ Wardrobe, textile and moth prevention
✨ Preparing delicious family meals for the evening
✨ Occasional informal entertaining
✨ Flowers, house plants and general provisioning
✨ Errands, deliveries and postal collections
✨ Keeping the home organised, calm and beautifully maintained

🍽️ THE COOKING

We’re looking for someone who genuinely enjoys cooking. Nothing overly formal — just delicious, well-prepared family food ready for the evening.

Whether that’s a beautiful roast, a delicious pasta dish or creating something lovely from what’s in the fridge, we’d love to hear from you.

We’re looking for someone who is:

✔ Experienced and highly capable
✔ Naturally organised and proactive
✔ Discreet and trustworthy
✔ A confident cook
✔ Comfortable caring for antiques and valuable possessions
✔ Happy working independently
✔ Genuinely proud of their work
✔ Fluent in English

Experience within a private household, heritage property, National Trust, English Heritage or similar environment would be highly desirable.

You will need:

✔ Your own car
✔ Full right to work in the UK
✔ Enhanced DBS
✔ Excellent, checkable private household references
✔ No smoking or va**ng
✔ Absolute discretion, including no photography inside the home

Free parking is available at the property.

At the heart of Hummingbird Homestaff has always been one thing for me: family. ❤️

I know only too well how quickly life becomes a juggling act — work, children, school runs, dinners, dogs, laundry, endless to-do lists… and somewhere in amongst all of that, trying to actually enjoy the people you love most.

That’s one of the reasons I started Hummingbird Homestaff.

I wanted to help families get something back that you can never buy more of — time.

Time to sit down for dinner together.
Time to watch the school play.
Time for a Saturday morning coffee.
Time to be a mum, a dad, a partner — rather than constantly feeling like you're managing the household.

Whether it’s a wonderful nanny, a fantastic housekeeper, practical family support or simply someone who takes a few jobs off your plate, the aim is always the same: to make family life feel a little easier.

And I suppose I should admit that my own family life has recently provided me with a rather lovely distraction… after years of boys, I finally have my first niece! 🥰

She has absolutely no idea yet, but she’s already got me wrapped around her tiny little finger — and I’m blaming her for any recent drop in productivity! 😂
