Fallibroome Academy - School Closure - Friday Update

Given the current forecast of sustained sub-zero temperatures, the conditions on the school site and on pavements leading to school are very likely to remain similar to how they are today. The further snow showers this morning have only added to these issues..

With this in mind, we have taken the decision now that we will remain closed tomorrow - Friday 10th January. The safety of students and staff remains our priority at this time. We also hope that everyone in our community will benefit from an early and clear message regarding this.

Lessons for all Y7-13 students on Friday will start with a live element delivered by their teacher via Google Meet.
Live lessons can be accessed by navigating to meet.google.com and entering the staff code of the teacher (these can be found on the student's timetables).
Students should join each lesson at the time it would start on their normal timetable.

Further guidance for accessing live lessons can be found on our website at https://fallibroome.academy/google-meet/

For Y11 students - we are currently working on a revised schedule for the Mock Exams. They will recommence on Monday 13th January. The new timetable for the exams will be communicated to students and parents by email and via the Year Group Google Classroom later today.

I apologise again for the disruption that school closure always causes. The conditions this week have been incredibly challenging. Next week looks much better and I am optimistic that it will be business as usual for us on Monday.

Google Meet is how Fallibroome runs all of its online lessons and assembles. To join a Google Meet, all you need to do is go to meet.google.com and type your teacher’s staff code into the “Enter a code or nickname” box. You don’t need a particular link or invitation; if the teacher is runnin...

Fallibroome Academy - School Closure

On safety grounds we have taken the decision to close school today.

Whilst most of the site is clear, there are still some patches of ice that may not clear even when gritted. Temperatures are forecast to remain below zero for most of the day.

The main factor this morning is that whilst roads are clear, pavements in the local area are treacherous. There is a genuine risk to student safety for those travelling on foot.

In a change from yesterday, lessons for all Y7-13 students today will start with a live element delivered by their teacher via Google Meet. Students will then complete tasks as directed by their teacher.

Live lessons can be accessed by navigating to meet.google.com and entering the staff code of the teacher (these can be found on the student's timetables).
Students should join each lesson at the time it would start on their normal timetable.

I apologise again for the disruption that school closure will inevitably cause. We will continue to monitor the situation and keep you updated. Hopefully the weather will soon settle and we can return quickly to school as normal.

Fallibroome Academy - School Closure

As there are very large amounts of snow and ice in our area, we are unable to make the school site safe this morning. We are also aware that many roads and pavements in the community have not been gritted and are reported as treacherous. This would make travelling to school for students and staff high risk. We have therefore made the decision that school will be closed today.

As explained yesterday, education for students will be provided in the following way:
Y7/8/9 students - work will be posted via Google Classroom
Y11 students - revision materials for the Mock Exams will be posted via Google Classroom. Mock exams scheduled for today will be rearranged.
Y10/12/13 students - each timetabled lesson will start with a short live element delivered by their teacher via Google Meet. Students will then complete tasks as directed by their teacher
Live lessons for Y10/12/13 can be accessed by navigating to meet.google.com and entering the staff code of the teacher (these can be found on the students timetables). Students should join each lesson at the time they would start on their normal timetable.

I apologise for the disruption that school closure will cause. The Site Team will be working hard today with the aim that we can make the site safe for the rest of the week. Hopefully the weather will soon settle and we can return quickly to school as normal

Update - Tues 7th Jan - Fallibroome Academy early closure

We continue to experience intermittent but very heavy snow showers. As there is a strong possibility of this continuing through the afternoon, there is increased risk to student and staff safety both on the site and travelling home. We have therefore made the difficult decision to close the school at 1.30pm today.

Students will be dismissed by their class teachers once registers have been taken at the start of P4.
They will then be able to contact you if necessary to make any arrangements for travelling home.
School buses will be here at 1.30pm.

Any student who is not able to make their way home should go to the Dining Hall where they will be supervised by staff until they are able to be collected.

We ask all parents and students to travel carefully and safely in these difficult conditions.

For Y11 students - the GCSE Food and Creative iMedia Mock Exams this afternoon will be rescheduled.

Tuesday January 7th - Snow Disruption

The Site Team have been able to make the site safe this morning, however following further snow, conditions in Macclesfield are currently reported to be difficult.

For the safety of staff and students we will be having a delayed start to school this morning.

Students should make their way to school for a 10.15am start and report straight to their Form Rooms to register. We will then move straight to P2 at 10.30am.

We would encourage students to walk to school if possible. Students who arrive before 10.15am should go to the Dining Hall where they will be supervised.

Students should wear their school uniform as normal, but are able to wear footwear appropriate to the weather conditions today.

We will communicate via the school website or social media channels if we need to provide any further updates.

Thank you for your understanding and please travel safely this morning.

Monday 6th January - School Closure

The further snowfall overnight and ongoing icy conditions have made the situation in our local area very difficult this morning. The weather forecast continues to look problematic for much of the morning.

The Site Team and staff are struggling to access school at the moment and police have advised that road conditions in Macclesfield are currently very difficult. At this point we are unable to make the site safe for staff and students, so with reluctance will need to close school today.

Staff will be setting work for students via Google classroom. Students should check these for their usual lessons and complete the work that has been assigned.

We will communicate via the school website or social media channels if we need to provide any further updates. At this point we fully expect school to be open as normal on Tuesday 7th January.

As you will understand, this is never an easy decision to take, however we must prioritise safety above all else. Thank you for your understanding
