The George Medal was given for 'acts of great bravery' primarily to civilians in WW2. We recently framed this one for a customer, along with the accompanying citation.
This details the full story as to how an unexploded bomb dropped and fractured a gas main and how the recipient then needed to work directly above the bomb to seal a service pipe to prevent the escape of gas. Despite the very real danger, difficulty of the task and during the continuing heavy bombing, the job was completed!
