Being made redundant or recently made redundant?

Talking to candidates daily is really interesting.

Sometimes positive, often tough – in terms of what people tell you about their job search plight.

Listening to candidates also gives me great insight into how they search/look for jobs / follow up / work with social media, etc.

A common thing we see is those made redundant having some money to tide them over for a period of time, resulting in an ‘I'm going to take a few months off then start looking ‘ type approach to job hunting.

My reply to this is always the same.

Don’t take too much time off.

Sure, have a break, but why not keep looking regardless.

You never know what could come up.

When 3 months becomes 6 months becomes a year or longer, it gets harder to find that next opportunity.

Redundancy/savings can quickly waste away.

It is really tough on the job market, so have a short break but don’t stop looking for the next role. You never know when the right role could present itself.

Recruitment is full of highs and lows.

Someone asked me last night what are the last things a recruiter ever wants to hear from a client when you’ve started recruiting for them?

So here goes:

· We've decided to go with another candidate

· We are going to pause our recruitment (after you've found some great candidates)

· Your candidate is really great, but we would like to see some more

· We will come back with a decision next week

· An internal candidate has unexpectedly come up

· We have had a friend of an employee apply

· The hiring manager is off for a few weeks now

· We no longer have the budget to recruit

Have I missed anything?
