Careers Week at Ffynone – Day 1 🚀

What a fantastic start to our Careers Week! We began the day with Mrs Thomas, who shared her journey running her own yoga business, followed by Dr Morris who gave pupils a fascinating insight into life as a GP.

Year 10 were inspired by Amanda Bordessa from Big Ideas Wales , learning what it really takes to start and run your own company. Our GCSE students then worked with Jim Richardson from Penguin Recruitment on what makes a strong CV and successful job application.

Phoenix, currently studying Chemistry at spoke to pupils about crafting a competitive UCAS application and gave an honest and insightful glimpse into university life.

We rounded off a jam-packed day with Year 9 hearing from Steven Bear, a Software Engineer, about careers in the tech industry.

A huge thank you to all of our speakers for giving up their time to support and inspire our pupils.

Arrr mateys! 🏴‍☠️ The crew o’ Penguin Recruitment set sail on a spooky Halloween voyage t’ remember! We donned our finest pirate garb- eye patches, tricorns, and all- and dropped anchor at The Mermaid Pub, where we feasted like kings o’ the seven seas. 🍗🍻 After fillin’ our bellies, we dove headfirst into a few questionable games (aye, the kind that’d make even Blackbeard blush), then sang our hearts out at karaoke till the rum ran dry! 🎤⚓

T’was a night o’ laughter, mischief, and merry mayhem- a proper pirate party for the Penguin crew! Yo ho ho, and a pint (or three) for all! 🦜🍺

The Penguins took on Tenby for a day of seaside adventure. A boat trip along the coast brought seals basking on the rocks and seagulls overhead, before a stop at Salty’s Bar for some well-earned grub and plenty of laughs. A surprise banana suit added extra chaos, and the journey home ended in true Penguin style—with karaoke echoing down the coach aisles. 🌞🐧

Team Penguin Recruitment just took on The Darth Mannion 2025- and survived to tell the tale!

What an unforgettable experience- 13.1 miles of pure madness across brutal trails, rivers, unforgiving mud, and even three complete-submersion sea dips 🌊. We slipped, we stumbled, we fell… and we loved every second of it.

This wasn't just a race- it was a test of grit, teamwork, and a healthy dose of humour. Luckily, a few cheeky shots of jagermeister along the way kept spirits high (and legs moving- sort of) 🍹😅.

Massive shoutout to Peloton Running for hosting one of the most unique and challenging events on the calendar, and to everyone who cheered us on, joined us in the pain, or helped pull a penguin out of a bog.
