Through Embark, we’re able to support a strong pipeline of trained people coming into care, while Fairway helps create opportunities for those people to gain experience, become part of a team and move into permanent roles.

For a specialist dementia care setting like Blythe Rose, that can also mean having people with the right training and skills for the environment, including specialist requirements such as CPI training.

3600 Temp to Perm hours provided this week.

The number itself is really positive, but what it represents is even better. Retention is still a real challenge across health and social care, and that’s a big part of what we’re trying to support at Fairway.

For care providers, it means people spending more time within their services, getting to know how they work and potentially moving into permanent vacancies. For carers, it means more regular work, greater job security and the chance to settle into a service, build relationships and work towards something long term.

For the people receiving care, it means more familiar faces, stronger relationships and greater consistency in who is there to support them.

That’s what the 3,600 represents. Not just shifts being covered, but good people being given the opportunity to stay, services building more stable teams and better continuity of care.

Thinking about working in care through Fairway?

For Fairway, it isn’t just about finding someone a shift and moving onto the next person. We want people to have regular work, build their experience and have the chance to turn that into something longer term.

That’s why Temp to Perm is such a big part of what we do. The aim is to get good people into care and help them stay there.

We’re really pleased to share Oluwatosin’s journey with both Embark and Fairway.

She came through the Embark programme wanting to build her knowledge and confidence in Health and Social Care, and from there moved into work with Fairway where she’s been able to keep developing and put that learning into practice.

What means the most to us is knowing she felt supported throughout. Whether it was during training or once she was out working, she knew there was someone there if she needed advice, had a question or just needed a bit of guidance.

She’s now completed her Temp to Perm journey and moved into full-time employment in care, which is a brilliant next step.

For us, this is what the link between Embark and Fairway should look like. Not just training someone and leaving it there, but helping people move into full-time work, supporting them to stay in the sector and building a stronger, more stable care workforce.

We’re really proud to see Fairway Healthcare recognised as a Great Place to Work in Healthcare.

Anyone who works at Fairway knows how much goes on in a normal day. There are calls coming in, conversations with clients, people to support, problems to sort and plenty happening behind the scenes to keep everything moving.

A lot of care goes into the work too. The team don’t just want to find someone a shift and move on. They want to see people settle into the right place, do extremely well and move into something permanent through our Temp to Perm pathway.

That takes people who care about doing things properly, but also a team who can rely on each other when things get busy.

That’s why this recognition means something to us. It reflects the people inside Fairway who show up every day, help each other out and keep pushing for better outcomes for the people and care providers we work with.

It was lovely seeing Ayah and Senait walk in for their Fairway interviews this week smiling, looking amazing and feeling really good about themselves.

Both had been supported by Smart Works Birmingham, who provided them with high-quality interview clothing and helped them prepare for the interview.

Ayah described her experience as “really great” and said the team made her feel very welcomed. They made sure she had what she needed for the interview and spent time practising questions with her and helping her think about how to respond.

Senait was just as happy with her experience. She loved her outfit and told us that people kept asking her about it, which she was proud to say was all thanks to Smart Works.

Seeing them both come in smiling and feeling good was genuinely lovely. Interviews can be daunting at the best of times, so being able to walk in feeling comfortable in what you are wearing and a little more prepared for the conversation ahead can mean a lot.

That is what makes working with Smart Works Birmingham so valuable. It is not simply about providing clothes. It is about giving women that extra bit of encouragement and helping them feel ready to take the next step when an opportunity comes along.

For Ayah and Senait, that next step was an interview with Fairway Healthcare, and it was brilliant to see them walk through the door feeling positive and ready to give it their best.

Both had such good things to say about their experience with Smart Works and it is easy to see why. The work they do gives women something practical they can take away, but also a real boost in how they feel about themselves going into an important moment.

10 care professionals moved into permanent roles through Temp to Perm in August, while 38 Temp to Perm placements began.

A permanent role gives someone the chance to settle into a team and build relationships with the people they support. For care providers, keeping good people means greater continuity and a team they can plan around.

Our care professionals worked 29,105 hours across August, with over £350,000 paid in wages. We also supported 54 learners into work through our connection with Embark Learning, helping bring new people into the sector.

Recruit. Retain. Sustain. These figures show that work in practice, from helping someone get started to supporting them into a permanent place in care.

A great next step for Shamsa as she collects her Fairway uniform and gets ready to start work in care. 👏

After successfully completing the five day programme with Embark Learning Care Academy and The King's Trust , building on her previous experience and qualifications, she is now moving into the workplace and putting that learning into practice.

This is where Fairway’s support continues. Through ongoing training, development, experience and opportunities to progress, we want to help people build a future in health and social care, not simply place them into work.

With a long term ambition to become a nurse, we hope to support Shamsa as she builds the experience, confidence and skills that will help her move closer to that goal.

“There’s no catch.”

Shirley Way, Head of Region (Midlands) at Skills for Care spoke about how Embark and Fairway are helping to open people’s eyes to the opportunities available within adult social care.

Sometimes people can be unsure when they’re offered support or a route into a new career, wondering what the catch might be. As Shirley put it, there really isn’t one. We’re here to support people, help them build their skills and create genuine opportunities to start and develop a career in care.

Shirley also spoke about the tangible outcomes she sees from this work, not just for the people entering the sector, but for the wider health and social care workforce and ultimately the people receiving care and support.

One of the highlights Shirley shared was how rewarding it is to see carers grow in confidence, skills and their careers. It was wonderful to hear this recognised by someone who knows the care sector so well, and a reminder of why creating these opportunities matters.

What a way to celebrate our Wolverhampton Group! 🎉

After four weeks of hard work, learning and plenty of progress, our learners came together for their Celebration Day to mark completing their Health and Social Care programme and achieving their Level 1 qualification.

And what a day it was.

It was brilliant to see everyone together, celebrating what they had achieved, sharing food and enjoying the moment after four weeks of working towards this day. We also handed out awards to recognise some of the learners and their achievements along the way.

We were really pleased to welcome the Mayor of Wolverhampton, who spent time with the group and shared some brilliant words with the learners. He spoke about how proud he was of their achievements and how they represent Wolverhampton, while encouraging them to be proud of what they have accomplished and look forward to what comes next.

It was a positive and motivating moment for everyone in the room and made an already special day even more memorable. It was fantastic to see the Mayor take such an interest in the work of Embark Learning and Fairway Healthcare and the opportunities we are creating for people looking to build a career in health and social care.

A huge thank you to Kelly, our trainer, for all the support, encouragement and guidance she gave the group throughout the programme, and to Lisa for supporting the learners along the way. Your work makes such a difference.

And the results speak for themselves:

17 learners started the programme
15 progressed to their guaranteed interview with Fairway
14 successfully passed their interview

To our Wolverhampton Group, thank you for being such a brilliant group from start to finish. Seeing you all celebrate together, receive your awards and hear you describe Embark in your own words was a fantastic way to finish the four weeks.
