If you want to make a difference, we want to hear from you!

Start dates: September, January, and April
What we offer: Great salaries, small class sizes, high staff-to-pupil ratios, ongoing training, and room to grow.

Interested? Send your CV or a short story about why you'd be a great fit to [email protected]

Productive days with Aggregate Industries! Ria Mason and Sarah Louise did an amazing job coaching some of our brilliant apprentices, and Ria later joined Vanessa Healey Gwilliam Bsc Hons (She/Her) for a highly constructive management meeting with Apprenticeship Manager Prinal Shah and senior line managers. They discussed future pathways for current apprentices, new programmes for upcoming cohorts, and opportunities to upskill existing employees. All set against the stunning backdrop of their waterside offices in Plymouth, overlooking the sea and super yachts.

The new Labour Government isn’t wasting time in restructuring how education and training are managed. Big shifts are underway!

As announced in the King’s speech, the Institute of Apprenticeships and Technical Education, responsible for developing and revising apprenticeships and technical qualifications, will be absorbed into the new Skills England body.

The Education and Skills Funding Agency (ESFA) is also set to close, with its functions moving into the Department for Education. This means a single point of contact for schools and training providers, streamlining financial management and support.

Why the changes? Government departments are seeking savings to tackle the £22 billion deficit left by the previous government. These adjustments will also give more power to regional bodies, ensuring that education and skills funding is managed locally.

Starting October 1, the Schools Financial Support and Oversight (SFSO) team will move to the Regions Group, supporting the launch of Regional Improvement Teams by January 2025. By March 2025, other core ESFA functions will be centralised under the Operations and Infrastructure Group.

The goal? Higher standards for every learner, with a focus on effective financial management to improve schools and training.

At Mercuri International UK, we’re committed to staying ahead of industry developments, and we wanted to share some important news from Ofsted.

Ofsted has announced the immediate removal of single headline judgments for schools, marking a significant change in how educational institutions are assessed.

For the FE and skills sector, however, the current system will remain unchanged until 2025. Ofsted is working towards a more customised inspection framework that better suits the diverse range of FE and skills training. This new approach will ensure that institutions from small training providers to large FE colleges, are evaluated in a way that reflects their unique environments.

A consultation on this framework is expected later this academic year, with the goal of creating a process that works effectively for both vocational and technical training, as well as classroom-based education.

Mercuri will continue to keep you updated on these significant changes. Stay tuned as we navigate these developments together!
