Top finance candidates are often off the market in just 10 days.

Yet many hiring processes take four to six weeks to reach the offer stage.

If you've ever wondered why your first-choice candidate accepted another opportunity, your recruitment process could be part of the reason.

In our latest blog, we explore where businesses are losing valuable time, why top candidates are slipping away, and the practical steps you can take to improve your hiring process.

I'm delighted to announce that Sara Davies, founder of Crafter's Companion, will be the featured speaker at our next Paul Card Recruitment event.

On Thursday 8th October at Seaham Hall, we'll be hosting:

Strategy That Scales
Turning ambition into sustainable business growth

I'll be hosting a relaxed fireside conversation with Sara about the strategic decisions behind growing a business, knowing which opportunities to pursue, when to say no, and recognising when it's time to change direction.

Ian Kinnery will also join us again, adding his perspective as a scale-up coach throughout the conversation.

This is the second event in our Scaling Up series, following our People event in June and moving this time to Strategy.

We're limiting the guest list to 60 North East business leaders, with invitations being sent personally.
I think this is going to be a really good one.

Finance professionals, you do not need to hate your job before considering your next move.

More than half of the accountancy and finance professionals in our latest survey who described themselves as happy at work are still considering new opportunities.

That does not necessarily mean there is something wrong with their current employer. Sometimes a good role has simply taken you as far as it can.

The better questions are whether you are still learning, progressing, being recognised and moving towards your longer-term career goals.

Some of the best career decisions are made from a position of strength, not frustration. You do not need to wait until Sunday-night dread sets in before thinking carefully about what should come next.

Our new North East Accountancy and Finance Workplace Survey and Salary Guide launches soon, with deeper insight into what is making finance professionals stay, move and reassess their careers.

Is it the job, or is it the summer?

The middle of the year can have you questioning where you are in your career and whether it's time for a change.

Half-year results land, targets reset and colleagues move on. Suddenly, you might find yourself wondering whether you should be making a move too.

But feeling ready for something different doesn't necessarily mean handing in your notice.

It could be the right time to look at how your accountancy and finance career is progressing, what you want from your next step and whether your current role can still give you that.

Our latest blog looks at how to reassess where you are, without making a rushed career decision.

If you want someone in post for October, the work starts now!

A quality accountancy and finance hire takes weeks, not days. Search, shortlist, interviews, offers, notice periods. Leave it until September and that October start date can quickly become November, December or even January.

We work with accountancy and finance employers across the North East to plan hiring in advance rather than in a hurry. That means getting ahead of the market, speaking to the right people early and having a shortlist ready when you're ready to hire.

If you know you'll need people this autumn, now is the time to start planning.

Your happiest employee might still be your next resignation.

In our latest North East survey, 73.4% of finance professionals said they were happy in their current role. Yet 63.6% are considering new career opportunities.

The number I think CFOs, Finance Directors and business owners should pay most attention to is this: 51.3% of the people who described themselves as happy are still open to moving.

They are not necessarily disengaged. A stronger opportunity, clearer progression, greater recognition or a working pattern that suits them better may simply be enough to start a conversation.

Retention cannot begin when somebody hands in their notice. It starts while your best people are still performing well and appear settled.

We explore this in much more detail in our new North East Accountancy and Finance Workplace Survey and Salary Guide, launching soon.

Would your best people say they can see their future in your business?

Temporary work isn't just about filling a gap. It can be a fantastic way to gain valuable experience, build your confidence and take the next step in your career.

By registering with us now, you'll be among the first people we contact when new assignments become available.

Whether you're looking for a few weeks, a few months or your next long-term opportunity, we'd love to hear from you.
