For the first time in almost a month...
..a NEW NRG Insights episode is back on Monday πŸ™ŒπŸ½ πŸ™ŒπŸ½ πŸ™ŒπŸ½

To kick off September, I'm joined by Lorenzo Satchell, National Account Director at StreamBank.

Lorenzo's spent more than 35 years in financial services... through crashes, recoveries and pretty much everything in between. πŸ˜…β

There are some great stories in this one, but also a lot about the things that have kept Lorenzo in the industry for so long...
..people, relationships and how he keeps finding new opportunities.

Make sure you're subscribed so you don't miss the new episode on Monday.

If you've spent any of the summer thinking about your next career move...
..this is worth remembering. πŸ‘‡

One thing I see ALL the time in recruitment...

Men will (often) put themselves forward for jobs they're nowhere near qualified for. πŸ˜‚

Whereas... women can be perfect for a role, spot ONE thing on the job spec they haven't done before... and question whether they should apply at all. πŸ˜‘πŸ˜‘πŸ˜‘

Obviously that's not every man or every woman, but I've seen the pattern countless times, particularly with more senior roles.

And the answer ISN'T that men are more capable.

They're often just more comfortable backing themselves BEFORE they can do everything the role asks for.

Whereas I speak to women who feel they need to prove they're ready before they'll even put themselves forward.

So if you've spent the summer thinking about your next move... don't let ONE line on a job spec make the decision for you.

Rosalia Lazzara spoke about this on her ON BRAND podcast recently. πŸ™ŒπŸ½

OUT TODAY. πŸ‘‡

I joined Rosalia Lazzara on ON BRAND to talk about something that's had a HUGE impact on me and NRG Recruitment Group over the last few years...

LinkedIn.

We talk about how it's helped us grow the business 5x, why I think personal branding matters so much in an industry built on relationships...
..and why you really can't fake enjoying what you do.

Anyone who follows me will know I spend a LOT of time on here... so it was good to actually sit down and explain why. πŸ˜‚β

Massive thanks to Rosalia for having me on. πŸ™ŒπŸ½β

Recruiters don't always have the best reputation... πŸ˜…πŸ˜…πŸ˜…β
..and having worked in the industry for as long as I have, I understand why.

But I will defend good recruitment ALL day long. πŸ‘ˆοΈπŸ’ͺ

Because the people I've seen last in this industry aren't normally the stereotypical salesy recruiters people complain about...

They CARE about what they do and are genuinely interested in the people and businesses they work with.

That's probably why I get defensive about recruitment. 😬 And was happy to talk about this with Rosalia Lazzara on her ON BRAND podcast (out tomorrow)...
..along with LinkedIn, personal branding, AI and how we've grown NRG Recruitment Group.

Episode is out TOMORROW. πŸ‘‡πŸ‘‡β

August is always a strange month when you run a business. πŸ˜…

Things can be a little quieter... and you get more time to think. πŸ‘‡

This clip with Kelsey Phillips, founder of Arose Finance came to mind because we were talking about how much a business reflects the person running it.

If you're on it... the business normally is too... πŸ’ͺ
..but when you're tired...distracted or not looking after yourself properly... that can creep in too. πŸ₯΄

And when you're busy and just getting on with things... you spend so much time thinking about what the business needs, where it's going and what needs fixing...
..that you FORGET about the person running it.

Maybe that's one good thing about things being quieter... you actually get the chance to notice. πŸ€”πŸ€”πŸ€”

Kelsey came on the podcast about a year ago and has since spoken at the House of Lords... the natural next step after NRG Insights. πŸ˜‚ Amazing to see. πŸ™ŒπŸ½

Before you take that management promotion...
..ask yourself if you actually want to manage people. πŸ€”

Everyone has different personalities, motivations, problems... and can be completely different depending on the day they've had.

When I asked Abi Pickford, Intermediary Sales Operations Director at Together, what advice she'd give to someone looking to move into management, she said... πŸ‘‡οΈ
..if you don't genuinely enjoy working with people and everything that comes with them, management isn't for you. πŸ™…β€β™€οΈπŸ™…β€β™€οΈπŸ™…β€β™€οΈ

Management is often treated as the obvious next step when someone's doing well. But being good at your job and being good at managing other people are DIFFERENT things.

Some people will love the people side of it... others might be happier carrying on doing the job they're brilliant at.

And there's nothing wrong with either. πŸ™ŒπŸ½

Most people assume experience is everything. πŸ‘‡πŸ‘‡β

But sometimes NOT having any is what makes you look at it differently.

I never worked for a traditional recruitment company. πŸ˜‡ πŸ˜‡

Instead, I came into recruitment from financial services, and I think that's had a big influence on how I've built NRG...

I've always looked at recruitment through the eyes of brokers, lenders and financial services businesses first... not recruiters. πŸ™…β€β™‚οΈ
..and that's why I've questioned a lot of the ways recruitment has always been done.

Most weeks on the podcast, I'm asking someone else how they ended up in FS...
..thought it was about time I reminded you of my own story. πŸ˜‰

This clip came from Avamore Capital's, The Property Funder Podcast, with πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§ Michael Dean & Colin Horton 🫢

People don't buy from you because you know your products... πŸ‘‡

They buy from you because they trust you. 🀝 🀝 🀝

Adam Butler, Director of Sales & Marketing at Avamore Capital, makes a great point in this clip...
..part of building that trust is understanding the whole journey of a deal, not just your part in it.

It's why Avamore have built their team by bringing people through internal roles before they become BDMs... πŸ‘‰ by the time they're in front of brokers, they understand what happens behind the scenes, what can hold a deal up and why certain decisions get made.

I think it's the same for brokers too.

If you've only ever done one part of the job, it's easy to think that's the hardest bit...

Once you've seen the whole journey, you have a better understanding of why deals move, why they stall and what it takes to get one over the line.

And before anyone mentions it... yes, we know Adam's audio goes briefly out of sync. πŸ˜…

Harry Downer joined specialist finance with no previous experience.

Less than three years later, he'd been promoted twice and played a part in RAW Capital Partners' strongest year since the business was founded. πŸ’ͺπŸ’ͺπŸ’ͺ

So, what helped him progress so quickly?

In this week's Rising Stars episode, we discuss...

🟣 What helped Harry progress so quickly in a completely new industry
🟣 Why strong relationships matter just as much as strong products
🟣 How lender BDMs can add value beyond rates and LTVs
🟣 The importance of learning from experienced colleagues
🟣 Why curiosity and asking questions can accelerate your career

Whether you're starting out in financial services, working in business development, or looking to build stronger relationships with brokers, there's plenty to learn from this one...
