We’ve been talking at OneWay about stress awareness - the physical and mental signs that will let you know if you’re under too much stress, and what to do if you are.

For many people animals, being outdoors and generally being surrounded by nature helps to keep them grounded and calm.

In fact, it’s been shown that interacting with animals can decrease your levels of cortisol, and lower your blood pressure, plus they can help combat loneliness and boost your mood - it’s reported that 95% of pet owners turn to their pets for comfort and to feel less stressed.

Say hello to some of the OneWay team, and their pets (and a very cute imposter!)

Questions you should be asking at the end of an interview.. part 2!

❓What challenges will your company face over the next 12 months?
✅Show how you can address these needs. If you are open to relocating, make sure your interviewer knows!
❓What landmark projects does your company have coming up and when?
✅Show that you’ve taken the time to understand the company and its activity. This can also help you scope out if the job’s workload is likely to change, or if there are future projects which excite you
❓How does your company tackle sustainability?
✅To the interviewer, this highlights your values, and shows you are committed to upholding these. If the company has dedication to similar values, they’ll see you as a great fit
❓I read that you were focusing on “X” sector. How is this affecting “Y”?
✅Demonstrate your commercial awareness and also show that you understand how parts of your role might affect the company at large.
❓Do you have any reservations about my suitability for this position that I could address at this stage?
✅While it’s sometimes a tough question, it can emphasise your assertiveness and interest in securing the position. It also shows that you want to grow, that you're comfortable receiving constructive criticism and back yourself in important situations.

Over the last 7 years, we’ve facilitated a work placement scheme which helps to rehabilitate ex-offenders from HM Ford prison by supporting them with work in the housebuilding and construction industries, particularly with Elivia Homes.

We spoke with Alan Tracey and Adam Smith about the success with the scheme, while Alan has already booked his next visit to HM Ford to announce new vacancies. We also took Alan Kemp, Terry Thomson CGC from Balfour Beatty plc & Ben Goulding from GoulPar Brickwork Ltd with us too to be part of the placement scheme.

If you're interested in using the HM Ford placement scheme, or simply want help in working towards your social value goals, contact us via the link in our comments.

Here’s a sneak peek at their catch up - full video will be live soon!

Recruitment - Myth vs Reality

❌What people think it’s like: You have to have a degree to be a successful recruiter

✅What it’s really like: The great thing about recruitment is that everyone has a different background, and regardless of educational status or qualifications, it’s a career path that’s open to everyone

❌What people think it’s like: Recruiters only care about money

✅What it’s really like: If a recruiter only cared about the money, clients and candidates would soon realise this and would stop using their services. A recruiter’s reputation in their market is priceless!

❌What people think it’s like: Recruitment is ‘cut throat.’

✅What it’s really like: There’s no doubt about it, recruitment is a sales job. But that said, a target-driven sales environment shouldn’t be equated with recruitment being a cutthroat industry.

❌What people think it’s like: If you don’t hit your targets, you’ll get fired

✅What it’s really like: It wouldn’t help anyone, including the business if people were fired for not hitting a target. Targets are set with you in mind – figures and projections tend to be taken from what you’re currently achieving
