Something we're seeing more and more across the homes we support is the incredible impact of animal-assisted therapy. 🐾

From horses and cats to chickens, rabbits, and the ever-faithful resident dog, animals are bringing real healing to so many.

For those living with autism, animals offer calm and trust in a way that words sometimes can't. For people with diabetes, specially trained animals can detect blood sugar changes. For those experiencing anxiety, depression, or loneliness, just stroking a cat or sitting with a gentle horse can lower blood pressure, reduce cortisol, and release those feel-good hormones we all need.

Science backs it up too. Interaction with animals stimulates serotonin, oxytocin, and prolactin, helping to lift mood, ease pain, and improve focus and social connection.

Animals remind us what non-judgemental, unconditional love and connection feels like. And that matters. 💚

This week is National Carers Week and we're thinking about EVERYONE who gives so much of themselves to look after another person. And that's a lot of people!

Some of them work alongside us every day. Our support workers and personal carers who show up, rain or shine, and make a real difference in people's lives. We're so proud of each and every one of you.

We also want to recognise the husbands, wives, sons, daughters, mums, dads, family and friends who care for their loved ones without a second thought. No badge, no uniform, just love and dedication.

This year's theme is 'Building Carer-Friendly Communities', and that means making sure carers aren't an afterthought. Every carer, paid or unpaid, deserves respect, recognition, and support.

If you're caring for someone right now, in whatever way that looks for you, we hope you know how appreciated you are. 💚

With the start of June, comes Pride Month 🌈

We know the stats show LGBTQ+ people are more likely to delay or avoid care.

That’s why we see it as our role to advocate for every patient. We encourage people to access the care that’s right for them, and we stand alongside them when they do.

We also recognise that many LGBTQ+ people experience discrimination, bias, or are misgendered in healthcare settings.

We educate ourselves as best we can, we check our biases and ask for the information we need in a sensitive way.

Key to our work is to make sure every client is feels seen, heard and respected.

It is on that foundation, that great care is built.

The heat is certainly making its presence felt across the UK right now! Our buildings and infrastructure are famously better at keeping heat in than out, so looking after ourselves and each other is more important than ever.

For those of you out in the community caring for others, please stay extra vigilant. It’s vital to look after your own safety as well as your clients. Many of the people we support are at higher risk of dehydration and overheating, so keep those water refills coming and the regular checks in place.

To keep indoor spaces comfortable, try opening windows early in the morning before the sun hits the glass, then keep them shut and curtains closed during the peak heat. You can open them again in the evening to let the cooler air back in. If you're using fans, placing a bowl of ice in front of them is a great way to circulate a much cooler breeze.

What are your tips on staying cool? 🍦☀️
