What does real impact look like? Sometimes, it starts with one person choosing to give back.
We believe careers are about more than progression; they’re about purpose. And this Volunteers' Week, we’re celebrating the people who bring that purpose to life in the communities around them.
Across the Nicholas Associates Group, of which we're part, individuals are stepping forward, using their dedicated volunteer days and personal time, to support causes that truly matter to them. Their stories don’t just inspire us; they remind us why giving back is so important.
One of those individuals is our very own Danielle McKenzie.
For Danielle, volunteering isn’t just something she does - it’s something deeply personal. Having been a young carer herself, she understands first-hand the pressures young carers face and the life-changing support organisations like Sheffield Young Carers (SYC) can provide.
That’s why Danielle chose to spend her volunteering day supporting SYC, an organisation that once supported her.
Driven by her own experiences, Danielle is passionate about making sure young carers are seen, understood, and supported, especially as they juggle responsibilities at home alongside education and their own wellbeing.
During her volunteer day, Danielle focused on building connections and driving meaningful support for the charity. Thanks to her efforts, SYC benefited from:
💻 Laptop donations from the Seahorse Trust
🎁 An impressive £850 contribution from Chantrey Lodge, raised through their Christmas raffle
These contributions go far beyond numbers; they help ensure young carers are identified early, given the tools they need, and never left to navigate their challenges alone.
Danielle’s story is a powerful reminder that your past can shape positive change for others and that even just one day can make a lasting difference.
