From 1st October, the time limit for bringing most Employment Tribunal claims doubled, from three months to six.

It applies where the 'relevant date' (broadly, when the issue arose) falls on or after 1st October 2026. In Scotland, the same extension applies to breach of contract claims from 9th November.

For employers, it means a longer window in which a claim can land and a longer window in which records, contracts, correspondence, disciplinary notes, need to be kept and findable.

A quieter change worth knowing about if you're in hospitality, retail or anywhere tips are shared out.

New rules were expected to require employers to consult staff when setting a tipping policy and to review that policy every three years. They've now been pushed back to later this year, following the government's consultation.

It's not in force yet, but it is coming, so it's worth being on your radar rather than a surprise when it lands.
