For World Su***de Prevention Day 2026, we want to highlight the mental health challenges faced by many HGV drivers.
HGV drivers record a su***de risk that is 20% higher than the national average.
With men making up around 98% of the UK HGV workforce, and men being statistically more likely to die by su***de than women, HGV drivers can be particularly vulnerable. Factors such as isolation on the road, long working hours, pressure to perform, and limited access to mental health support can all have a significant impact on drivers' wellbeing.
Today, we want to remind drivers, and anyone who may be struggling, that help is available. Reaching out can be as simple as calling a free helpline or talking to someone you trust.
The Samaritans are available free of charge, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, on 116 123.
If someone is in immediate danger or requires urgent medical assistance, call 999 or attend your nearest A&E.
