Our social initiatives are not just statements on paper.

We are committed to creating real pathways into construction and infrastructure for underrepresented groups, including veterans and their families.

This commitment has taken shape over time:

🪖 In 2023, we signed the Armed Forces Covenant and launched a dedicated ex-forces recruitment programme, formalising our support for service leavers transitioning into civilian careers.

🎖️ In 2025, we were awarded the Gold Employer Recognition Scheme (ERS) Award, the highest recognition from the Ministry of Defence.

🤝 Earlier this year, we acquired CareerForces, a veteran-led recruitment social enterprise focused on supporting service leavers.

Taken together, these steps reflect a long-term commitment to supporting veterans not just into work, but into sustainable careers within construction and infrastructure.

And that matters, because service leavers bring experience and transferable skills that can be highly valuable in construction and infrastructure roles.

As Mental Health Awareness Week comes to a close, we’re sharing a reminder that conversations around mental wellbeing don’t end here.

The pressures of work are ongoing, especially in construction and infrastructure, where demands can build over time. That’s why looking out for each other is something we take seriously.

At VGC, we believe support starts with simple, everyday actions.

Whether that’s speaking to a colleague, your project manager or someone you trust, reaching out is always encouraged.
