The Fair Work Agency (FWA) – What You Need to Know

As of April 2026, the UK has a new single enforcement body for workers’ rights: the Fair Work Agency, sponsored by the Department for Business and Trade.

The FWA brings together three previously separate bodies under one roof:

🔹 The Gangmasters and Labour Abuse Authority
🔹 The Employment Agency Standards Inspectorate
🔹 The National Minimum Wage Enforcement Team

So what does this mean in practice?

Workers now have a single point of contact if they believe their rights aren’t being upheld. For businesses — and recruitment agencies in particular — the FWA has the authority to inspect, investigate and penalise where compliance falls short.

For those of us in the staffing and recruitment sector, this is a significant development. A unified regulator means a more joined-up approach to enforcement across agency standards, pay compliance and worker welfare. Whether you’re managing temporary assignments or permanent placements, it’s worth reviewing your processes now to make sure everything is in order.

Getting ahead of this isn’t just about avoiding penalties — it’s about demonstrating to clients and candidates alike that you take fair work seriously.
