SEN Teaching Assistant (Maternity Cover)

Start Date: Monday 2nd November 2026 (potential for an earlier start with handover days available) 12-Month Fixed-Term Contract

Veritas Education are working in partnership with a welcoming and supportive primary school in the Garstang area who are seeking an experienced and dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to join their team on a 12-month maternity cover contract.

Due to the rural location of the school, candidates must be drivers with access to their own transport.

This is primarily a general Teaching Assistant role within a KS2 classroom. However, the successful candidate will be supporting pupils with a diverse range of special educational needs and learning profiles, including Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), ADHD, and social, emotional and behavioural needs.

The school is looking for someone who can provide strong classroom support, work closely alongside the class teacher, and help ensure all pupils are engaged, supported, and able to achieve their potential.

The Role:

Supporting teaching and learning within a KS2 classroom
Working with pupils with a range of SEN, including autism, ADHD and behavioural needs
Providing both one-to-one and small group support where required
Assisting the class teacher with classroom management and lesson delivery
Helping to create an inclusive and positive learning environment
Building positive relationships with pupils, staff and parents

The Ideal Candidate:

Has previous experience working in a classroom setting (essential)
Has experience supporting children with SEN
Demonstrates excellent behaviour management and communication skills
Is patient, adaptable and proactive in their approach
Can work effectively as part of a team and support the class teacher
Holds a relevant TA qualification (desirable)
Is a driver with access to their own vehicle due to the school's location

You will be providing individual support to a Year 4 pupil with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) who is currently unable to fully access the classroom curriculum.
