Exciting day for Mel!

Mel is joining the team at Premier Inn Llandudno in the role of Domestic Assistant.

She has her induction today and just look at that huge smile on her face alongside Paul, her fabulous job coach, and Cara, the Hotel Manager at Premier Inn Llandudno.

We know Mel is super excited to get started and we look forward to following along on her journey.

Good luck, Mel!

A couple of weeks ago, we shared a photo of Mahfuz during his practical interview on the selection day for the 9-month internship at Bryn Euryn Café.

We’re thrilled to say that Mahfuz was successful, and today is his very first day.

His fabulous job coach, Paul, is with him today to help him settle into the role and ease those first-day nerves.

Good luck, Mahfuz - we look forward to hearing how it goes!

Yesterday we enjoyed another fabulous session about “Communication in the Workplace” with Sam from Grŵp Llandrillo-Menai.

We focused first on having effective conversations. Using prompt cards, everyone moved around the room and spoke with different people. The aim was to learn something new about each person. It was as much about listening as it was about talking, and it was great to see conversations building naturally.

We then played a game where participants had to switch chairs when a specific word was called out. It brought plenty of energy and laughter, while keeping everyone alert.

The best part of these sessions is seeing confidence grow each week. We look forward to seeing what Sam has in store for us next week.

Yesterday, our fabulous Peer Ambassador Freya returned to her old school, Ysgol Y Gogarth, alongside Olivia Gatford, Employment Pathway Coordinator for Conwy and Denbighshire.

The purpose of the visit was for Freya to speak with Year 11 students about her journey into employment. Although Freya was understandably nervous beforehand, she quickly found her confidence and delivered a fantastic presentation, sharing her experiences and inspiring the students with her story.

We are so proud of how well she did and the positive example she set for the young people in the room. Well done, Freya!

Yesterday we had another great session with Sam from Grŵp Llandrillo-Menai.

Last week focused on confidence and self esteem, and this week we moved on to communication in the workplace.

To help everyone settle in, we started with some fun ice breakers. The group had to line up in alphabetical or numerical order based on Sam’s instructions. A simple task, but a great way to see teamwork and how people communicate under pressure.

We then moved on to listening activities, including a drawing exercise where one person described an image and the others had to recreate it. It was a brilliant reminder of how important clear instructions and active listening really are.

The communication course will continue for another three weeks, every Monday. It is already helping participants build a stronger understanding of what good communication looks like in practice.

On Friday, the team had a fantastic meeting with RCS at the Conwy Culture Centre to discuss all things Go Gwyrdd.

Go Gwyrdd is a five year, lottery-funded project designed to support young people aged 16–30 who face barriers to employment by helping them access opportunities in green careers.

We’ll meet quarterly to review our progress with jobseekers and discuss the employers we are engaging with. We look forward to working closely with RCS and other stakeholders on this project.

Here we have Mahfuz during his practical interview at the Bryn Euryn Nursery selection day.

Hft runs an internship at the BEN Café, with each placement lasting 9 months. The programme is designed to support participants to learn and develop workplace skills in a supportive environment.

Mahfuz is hoping to be part of this intake, and Paul was on hand this morning to support him — he did really well.

A great afternoon at CoOptions HQ today as we kicked off the first of our upcoming courses with Sam from Grŵp Llandrillo-Menai.

Today’s session focused on confidence and self-esteem, giving participants the chance to build skills, grow in knowledge, and feel more confident in their own abilities.

It was great to see everyone getting involved and chatting with ease. We’re looking forward to the next four weeks, where the focus will shift to communication in the workplace.
