😂 You Know You Work in Construction When…

☕ Your first risk assessment of the day is whether the tea is strong enough.

🦺 You own more hi-vis clothing than normal clothing.

📏 “That looks about right” is immediately followed by someone finding a tape measure.

🌧️ You check the weather forecast more often than your messages.

🔧 Someone asks, “Who’s got my 10mm?” and suddenly nobody knows anything.

🚧 And the words “It’ll only take five minutes” usually mean you can cancel your plans for the rest of the afternoon.

But despite the early starts, unpredictable weather and disappearing tools…

We wouldn’t have it any other way! 👷‍♂️👷‍♀️

What would you add to the list? 👇

🚜 People and Plant Don't Mix Without Planning
Excavators, dumpers and telehandlers are essential on every construction site—but they also present one of the biggest risks.
Many incidents happen simply because pedestrians and plant occupy the same space.
Simple controls make a huge difference:
✅ Clearly segregated walkways
✅ Competent banksmen
✅ Good visibility
✅ Speed restrictions
✅ Eye contact before approaching moving plant
Everyone has a role to play in keeping sites safe.
Remember: operators can't always see you—even if you can see them.

The UK is entering one of the biggest periods of infrastructure investment in decades. New roads, rail, tunnels, energy projects and housing developments will shape our communities and economy for years to come.

But delivering these projects isn't just about funding or equipment.

It's about people.

The future of construction depends on having a workforce that is skilled, competent and committed to working safely every single day. Investing in training, developing knowledge and maintaining high standards today will help ensure these projects are delivered safely, efficiently and to the quality the industry demands.

At GTE Training Academy, we're proud to play a small part in helping construction and tunnelling professionals build the competence and confidence needed for the challenges ahead.

As another working week comes to an end, it's worth remembering that every successful project starts with people who never stop learning.

Have a safe and well-deserved weekend. www.gteta.com

🚧 Working at Height: A Harness Isn't Your First Line of Defence

When people think about working at height, the first thing that often comes to mind is a safety harness.

But did you know that a harness is actually one of the last control measures?
The safest approach is to prevent falls before they can happen.

✔ Can the work be completed from ground level?
✔ Can collective protection such as guardrails or podium steps be used?
✔ Is the equipment suitable and inspected?
✔ Is everyone competent to carry out the work safely?
PPE is important—but good planning saves more lives than any piece of equipment ever will.

At GTE Training Academy, we believe that understanding why we work safely is just as important as knowing how.

👇 What's the biggest working-at-height challenge on your site?
