🌟 June Update from Anne Corder Recruitment 🌟

This month, we’re exploring a growing challenge for engineering and manufacturing businesses: tribal knowledge.

What happens when the person who “just knows” how everything works leaves the business? From maintenance and production processes to customer requirements and quality standards, undocumented knowledge can quickly become a significant operational risk.

In our latest newsletter, we discuss:
✔️ Why tribal knowledge matters more than ever
✔️ The impact of skills shortages and retirements
✔️ How recruitment and succession planning can help protect your business

We’re also excited to share the launch of our new Engineering & Manufacturing community page, details of our upcoming webinar on Neuroinclusive Design, and where you can find us at CambsB2B North 2026.

They know the machine that needs a slight adjustment before it behaves. They know the supplier who needs chasing. They know the workaround that keeps production moving. That knowledge is valuable, but if it only sits with one person, it can quickly become a business risk.

The best specialist engineers are not on job boards. They are already employed, well-treated, and not particularly interested in your advert.

That is the reality of niche engineering recruitment right now. Businesses have become much more specific about what they need from a technical hire, and that precision is a good thing operationally. But it has made the search considerably harder.

We are seeing it clearly in the briefs we receive. Roles described as multi-skilled often have a dominant discipline buried in the detail. Specifications built by committee contain requirements that cannot coexist in a realistic candidate. And salary brackets set years ago are being held up against a market that has moved.

None of this means specialist engineering roles cannot be filled well. It means they reward a different approach: sharper briefs, earlier engagement, honest benchmarking, and a recruiter who can reach people who are not actively looking.

We have written about the shift towards niche engineering roles and what it means for employers trying to hire well. It is worth a read if you are building an engineering team or trying to understand why a current search is taking longer than expected.

Engineering hiring has quietly got harder. Not because there are fewer engineers, but because businesses increasingly know exactly what kind of engineer they...

Some businesses are using AI to cut admin, move faster, and focus their teams on the work that actually matters. That is the right use of the technology.

But a growing number of hiring managers are now using AI for shortcuts in the hiring cycle, and that is where the logic starts to break down.

AI screening tools are built to find patterns. They identify keywords, job titles, and qualifications against a defined set of criteria. What they do not find is the candidate who has done the job under a different title, or the person whose career path tells a more interesting story than their CV headings suggest. They do not see coachability, communication style, or the kind of quiet resilience that only becomes visible in a conversation.

Those candidates are being rejected before a single person has read their application. And some of them are exactly the people you are looking for.

In our latest blog, we look at where AI genuinely helps in both sales and hiring contexts, and where handing the decision to an algorithm creates problems that are harder to fix than the time it saved.

Worth reading if you are building a team this year or rethinking how your hiring process works.

AI is not coming for your job. But it is coming for the parts of your job you should not have been doing manually in the first place. Used with intent, it...

Finance teams that only report on the past are already behind.

The companies that move well, and recover quickly when things do not go to plan, tend to have one thing in common. They have a finance business partner embedded in the business, not sitting in a back office, but in the room where decisions are made.

The difference between a finance function that produces outputs and one that genuinely shapes strategy is not about the quality of the reports. It is about proximity. A finance business partner who understands the commercial pipeline, the pressures on different teams, and the assumptions baked into the numbers can do something a report cannot. They can challenge, advise, and flag problems while there is still time to act.

We have written about what that actually looks like in practice, how horizon scanning works, what strong forecasting really means, and what to look for when you are hiring into this role.

If you are thinking about building this capability in your business, or hiring for it, it is worth a read.

🌟 May Update from Anne Corder Recruitment 🌟

This month, we’re exploring a trend we’re seeing more and more across the market — the rise of temporary hiring 📈

Businesses are still growing and hiring, but many are choosing temporary recruitment to maintain flexibility while managing increasing workloads and future uncertainty.

In our latest newsletter, we share insights into:
✔️ Why temporary hiring is on the rise
✔️ How candidate attitudes are changing
✔️ The benefits of a more flexible workforce strategy

Plus, details of our upcoming employer event for HR professionals and business leaders 🤝

Over recent months, we’ve seen a clear and consistent shift in hiring patterns across our client base. Increasingly, organisations are choosing to recruit on a temporary basis, and this is no longer an isolated trend, but one we’re seeing play out time and again across multiple sectors.

Most businesses say culture is a priority. Far fewer have thought seriously about who is responsible for building it.

The answer sits with HR. Not in a peripheral, box-ticking way, but in a fundamental one. The HR team shapes how people are hired, how they are managed, how they are developed, and how they feel about the business they work for. Every policy, every process, every conversation is either building the culture or quietly chipping away at it.

But here is the part that often gets overlooked. The composition of the HR team matters just as much as its capability. A team with a narrow range of backgrounds and perspectives will struggle to understand a workforce that looks nothing like itself. Diversity within HR is not a nice-to-have. It is what allows the function to do its job properly.

Our latest blog looks at why this matters, what a genuinely strong HR team looks like, and what to consider when making your next people hire.

Read it here: https://annecorder.co.uk/blog/how-a-great-hr-team-can-transform-your-business-culture

Culture is not a poster on a wall, and it is not a line in a values statement. It is the daily reality of how people are treated, how decisions are made, and...
