Your next hire might not be looking for a new job.

They may be happy where they are, but open to hearing about an opportunity. These are often called ā€œpassive candidatesā€.

Before applying, they’ll want to know what would make a move worthwhile. What would they be taking on? What’s the salary? Would the working arrangements suit them?

Sometimes, a conversation needs to come before an application.

At Not For Profit People, we help start those conversations! Our headhunting service helps charities reach people beyond those already looking for a new role.

Giving your time is another way to support a charity. šŸ’š

At September’s Aim High Festival, we saw volunteers helping visitors and keeping the stalls running. Their contribution was part of what brought the day together.

We’re pleased to support Ailsa’s Aim and help recognise the people who give their time to make days like this possible.

Flexible working came out on top in our recent LinkedIn poll. But are we surprised?

Between commuting, caring responsibilities and commitments outside work, how a role fits into everyday life can be a big part of deciding whether to apply.

For charity employers, there’s a practical takeaway: explain what flexibility looks like in your organisation.

ā€œFlexible working availableā€ leaves a lot unanswered. Does it mean adjustable start times, hybrid working or the option to work part-time?

Candidates can make a more informed decision when they know what’s possible and what the role requires.

Thank you to everyone who shared their views.

Your experience might fit the role. But would someone outside your industry understand how?

When updating your CV for a charity role, look for internal job titles, acronyms and company language that need explaining.

For example:

ā€œLed the regional CX improvement workstream.ā€

Could become:

ā€œUsed customer feedback to identify recurring problems, trained colleagues and changed how enquiries were handled.ā€

The second version makes your contribution easier to understand. If you have a result you can evidence, add that too.

Keep your official job title, but explain your responsibilities clearly. You don’t need to have held the same job title to bring relevant experience. Make that connection clear in your CV and supporting statement.

A thank you to the children of foster carers šŸ’›

This Children of Foster Carers’ Week, we’re helping raise awareness of The Fostering Network’s campaign celebrating the children and young people who share their homes and family life with children in care.

From offering friendship to helping someone feel included, their contribution deserves recognition. It’s also a chance to listen to their experiences and make sure they feel supported and valued too.

Today is World Mental Health Day šŸ’š

This year’s theme, ā€œLived experiences heard: real voices, real changeā€, highlights the importance of listening to people’s experiences, not making assumptions about what they need.

When people feel heard, their experiences can help shape better support, more understanding and meaningful change.

Today, and beyond, let’s make space to talk, listen and support better mental health together.

Sometimes the hardest part of recruitment is finding the time.

The applications are coming in, but so are the funding deadlines, meetings and everyday demands of running a charity.

Reviewing CVs and arranging interviews become more tasks to fit into an already full week.

It’s something we hear from charity teams: they know who they’re looking for and how to recruit them. They just need some extra capacity to keep things moving.

A little support at the right stage can give your team room to focus, while keeping candidates informed and the process on track.

Lovely feedback from a charity Esther helped with their CEO recruitment āļø

If your charity is looking for its next leader, we’d love to have a conversation about how Not For Profit People can help.
