One of the biggest mistakes we see job seekers make is treating job applications as a numbers game.

When you're not hearing back, it's tempting to apply for everything. But in a crowded market, a rushed application is easy to overlook.

You're usually better off spending time on five applications that are tailored to the role than sending 50 generic ones.

👉 Before you hit submit, ask yourself:

Does my CV clearly match the role?

Have I addressed the person specification?

Have I tailored my supporting statement?

Would a recruiter understand my suitability within 30 seconds?

A smaller number of strong applications will almost always outperform a large number of rushed ones.

"I'm applying for loads of jobs and hearing nothing back."

We're hearing this from a lot of charity job seekers at the moment. Applying for role after role, spending hours on applications, then getting nothing back or an automated rejection.

It's frustrating, especially when you know you're qualified for the roles you're applying for.

The reality is that many charity vacancies are attracting a huge number of applications. That means recruiters and hiring managers often have very little time to review each one.

If you're not getting interviews, it doesn't necessarily mean you're not good enough for the role.

A few things that can help:

→ Tailor your CV to the role you're applying for

→ Show how your experience matches the person specification

→ Spend time on your supporting statement

→ Make your achievements easy to spot

Before you send your next application, ask yourself one question:

If someone spent 30 seconds looking at this application, would they immediately understand why I'm right for the role?

Since 2023, we've partnered with World Vision UK to help manage ongoing recruitment across the organisation, supporting 25 recruitment campaigns in 2025 alone.

By taking care of advertising, candidate attraction, campaign management and recruitment advice, we've helped reduce pressure on the internal team while improving application numbers and candidate quality.

The result is a recruitment process that is quicker, more efficient, and easier to scale whenever new hiring needs arise.

We're incredibly proud to support an organisation doing such important work and grateful for the trust they've placed in us over the last few years.

👉 If you're finding recruitment is taking up too much time, or you're not attracting the candidates you need, we'd love to have a conversation about how we can help.

Applying for jobs? There's a good chance employers and recruiters will look you up on LinkedIn before deciding whether to contact or interview you.

A strong profile, clear headline and recent activity can help you make a positive first impression before you've even spoken to them.

Looking for a new job can feel overwhelming. There are hundreds of vacancies out there, and it isn't always easy to know which opportunities are the right fit.

One of the things we're most proud of as an agency team is helping candidates find roles that are genuinely right for them.

We've always believed the best results come from taking the time to understand what someone is looking for and introducing opportunities that truly fit their skills, experience and ambitions.

Thank you to this candidate for their kind words 😊

Looking for staff but not getting the applications you need?

Your job advert could be holding you back.

Many charity job adverts are too long, too vague, or focus heavily on responsibilities without telling candidates what they actually want to know.

A good rule of thumb? Keep your advert to around 500 words. It's easier to read, works better online, and helps candidates quickly understand whether the role is right for them.

But it's not just about length.

The wording you use, your job title, advert structure, benefits, and how clearly you communicate the opportunity can all have a big impact on the number and quality of applications you receive.

That's exactly what we'll be covering in our upcoming webinar:

📅 Friday 5 June
⏰ 10:30am - 11:30am

We'll be reviewing charity job adverts live, sharing practical tips you can put into practice straight away, and showing how small changes can help attract better candidates without increasing your recruitment budget.

This week is Mental Health Awareness Week!

For so many people working in the charity and non-profit sector, supporting others is part of everyday life. But while teams spend so much time caring for communities, causes and service users, it’s important that employee wellbeing is looked after too.

Heavy workloads, emotional pressure and limited resources can take their toll, which is why supportive workplaces, open conversations and healthy boundaries are so important.

A strong organisation starts with people who feel supported.
