Hair “myths” that are actually true… and the reason your hair might not be doing what you want it to
Your hair type changing over time is very real. Hormones, heat styling, colouring and even ageing can shift your texture, thickness and how your hair behaves, which is why what used to work for you a few years ago might not anymore.
Stress affecting your hair is another one people underestimate. High stress can push hair into a shedding phase, which is why you might notice more fallout a few months after a stressful period rather than straight away.
The whole “plucking a grey makes more grow back” isn’t true, but repeatedly pulling hairs can damage the follicle over time, so it’s still not something you want to keep doing. Come and see me instead!! 😅
Your diet absolutely impacts your hair because it’s not essential for survival, so if your body is lacking nutrients your hair is one of the first places it shows. Things like dullness, breakage and slower growth can all link back to this.
Wet hair is at its most fragile state, so brushing it roughly or without the right tools is one of the quickest ways to cause breakage without even realising you’re doing it.
Cold water at the end of your wash can help smooth the cuticle slightly, which is where that shinier finish comes from, not a miracle fix but it does make a difference.
Tight styles worn constantly, especially around the hairline, can lead to tension and eventually hair loss in those areas if there’s no break from it.
Rough towel drying might feel harmless but it can actually lift the cuticle and cause frizz and breakage, which is why switching to something softer or even just being more gentle helps more than you think.
And finally, scalp care. If your scalp isn’t healthy, your hair won’t be either, because that’s where it all starts. Healthy growth always comes back to what’s happening at the root.
