More than 300 arrests have now been made as part of Northamptonshire Police's ongoing Operation Red initiative, which targets domestic abuse perpetrators and safeguards victims across the county.
Since March, officers have carried out enforcement activity resulting in arrests for a wide range of offences, including breaches of court orders, violence offences, stalking, harassment, and coercive and controlling behaviour.
The operation has also seen a number of offenders arrested for breaching Domestic Violence Protection Orders (DVPOs), with suspects being brought before the courts at the earliest opportunity.
Alongside enforcement action, officers have continued to prioritise victim safeguarding. Many suspects have been released on strict bail conditions while investigations continue, with Domestic Violence Protection Notices (DVPNs) and other protective measures used to provide immediate protection and support to victims.
The operation has resulted in offenders being charged and remanded into custody, while ongoing investigations continue to build evidence against others suspected of committing domestic abuse offences.
Examples of recent incidents
• A man was charged and remanded after breaching a non-molestation order designed to protect his victim.
• A member of the public contacted police after witnessing a woman being assaulted. Officers swiftly attended, leading to the arrest of a man who was subsequently charged and remanded in custody.
• In another case, officers attended an address following reports of a disturbance. Although the victim initially stated a facial injury had been self-inflicted, attending officers recognised signs that suggested further enquiries were necessary. Their persistence led to the arrest of a man for assault. A Domestic Violence Protection Notice was put in place to safeguard the victim while the investigation continued, and the offender has since been sent to prison.
Chief Inspector Nathan Shepherd, of Northamptonshire Police's Response and Local Policing Team, said: "Making more than 300 arrests through Operation Red demonstrates our determination to relentlessly pursue domestic abuse offenders and protect those at risk.
"Domestic abuse can have a devastating impact on victims and their families, which is why we will continue to take robust action against those responsible while ensuring victims receive the safeguarding and support they need.
"Operation Red is about more than arrests. It is about holding perpetrators to account, using all available safeguarding powers to protect victims, and working alongside our partners to help people break free from abuse.
"I am incredibly proud of the commitment shown by our officers and staff, whose proactive work continues to identify offenders, build stronger cases and deliver positive outcomes for victims across Northamptonshire."
