The Shining Stars Awards are back for 2026! 🌟

These awards recognise dazzling staff members who have gone above and beyond for others across the year. All finalists will be invited to an awards ceremony taking place in September💫

To nominate a fellow member of staff, simply scan the QR code on the poster, which will be arriving in each home very soon. Nominations will close on 22nd June.

Thank you Davey!✨

Our Facilities Manager, Davey, has recently retired after 20 years at Wellburn. Throughout his time with us, Davey was responsible for taking care of maintenance issues across all our homes. He covered a huge variety of tasks and had a brilliant mind for fixing problems🔧

Davey says it’s something he’s loved doing since childhood and fondly remembers taking apart his toys just so he could put them back together again.

Describing Wellburn as a first-class company, Davey said you are always well cared for and when the residents are cared for, you know you will be too⭐️

Davey is now looking forward to a retirement filled with plenty of golf, a trip to Canada, and no doubt staying busy helping with his children’s DIY tasks!

And our new Shooting Star is… Louise Coates from Eighton Lodge 💫

Louise is a Domestic Assistant who has been recognised for her positivity and can-do attitude, and she regularly receives lovely feedback from residents’ loved ones. Louise always goes above and beyond in her role, and in her fourteen years at Eighton Lodge, she has proven herself to be an exceptional member of the Wellburn team ❤️

As a Shooting Star Award winner, Louise received a special certificate as well as a voucher for a retailer of her choice worth £250.

It’s safe to say we got 2026 off to a cracking start with our edible springtime scenes!🌸

We absolutely loved all the entries - the sheer amount of effort, engagement and creativity wowed us. We only wish we’d been able to taste test the creations, too!

That being said, there can only be one winner for the first challenge of the year. We are so pleased to announce that the winner of the spring 2026 inter-home challenge is… Towers🎉

Ryton Towers stunned us with their beautiful allotment-themed cake creation, which looked like something straight out of the Great British Bake Off! We loved the behind-the-scenes pictures which showed clear staff involvement and a real team effort, and the finished product is just gorgeous. How clever are those mini marshmallow sheep?! 🐑

With heaps of creativity, imagination and teamwork, Ryton Towers’ edible allotment looks almost too good to eat. A much-deserved win! 🥇

We are proud to present Wellburn’s Shooting Star Award to Carol Loughland, a Care Assistant at Whorlton Grange Care Home! ✨

Carol is an asset to the team at Whorlton Grange, and her dedication and compassion are consistently recognised by staff, residents and members of the wider community alike. She is a truly deserving winner, and as well as her Shooting Star certificate, she also received a £250 voucher for a retailer of her choice. Well done, Carol! 🤩

Thank you to all our amazing staff at Rosevale and St Catherine's for your hard work over the last year 💚

As a well deserved treat, Head Office surprised the team with doughnuts from the locally renowned York Bakehouse. From gooey biscoff and crunchy Oreo, to decadent pistachio and dark chocolate, there was a flavour for everyone to enjoy!🍩

Thanks again St Catherine’s and Rosevale, your hard work never goes unnoticed❤️

Staff at Riverhead Hall took part in the Great Tommy Sleep Out for Royal British Veterans Enterprise, swapping their beds for a freezing night outdoors to support homeless veterans⛺️

Spending the night in a tent, the team experienced just a small glimpse of the harsh reality many face every night, raising a staggering £1146 so far for vital shelter and mental health support, as well as collecting camping equipment donations to pass on to the charity 💚

We want to say a big thank you to Whorlton Grange and Ryton Towers ❤️

Geordie Bakers dropped off some delicious treats for us to enjoy. There was plenty to choose from, from scrumptious sausage rolls to decadent Malteser chocolate tiffin - yum! 🍫

Thank you to all our amazing staff for their outstanding work over the last 12 months. We are so grateful for everything you do❤️
