Due to the lack of match reports recently we wanted to give a quick recap on our senior season so far.
First Team - The season started off with an abandoned match against Cleeve due to rain, followed by defeats to a strong Tamil Nadu side and top of the table Bishopston. There were however strong bowling performances in both matches with young Harry Chewins picking up 5 wickets over the two games, and Steve Spencer with 4-52 (8). Youngster Ryan Hadley also picked up his first First team wickets with impressive spells in both games. James Billows did well with the bat against Bishopton, getting 44 in an unfamiliar opening role.
An excellent 140 run win against Shirehampton got the Firsts season up and running. A total of 176 was set up by a 52 from Nilesh Vaz (his second 50 of the season), and a brilliant bowling performance led to Shire being all out for 36. Amazing bowling figures all round with Ian Sherreard (3-8), Jack Smith (3-11), Pete Hardcastle (2-11) and Ryan Hadley (2-5). This was followed by a narrow loss to Bedminster in the penultimate over of the game, with notable performances from Alvin Pollard who scored 71 and Jack Smith who scored 33 and picked up 3-45 off his 8 overs.
Second Team - It has been an encouraging start to the season for the 2s, who have fought to the end in two very narrow losses. Against Midsomer Norton a competitive total of 172-5 was set, with contributions from Rob Wood (41), Tom Cressy (22) and Rich Miller (14 ret n/o) but the star was 12 year old Rufus Miller who cracked his first senior half century, hitting 53 and retiring out. Despite a good bowling performance from a very young team (wickets shared between Ava Wood, Tom Cressy, Thomas Reid and Joe Smith) Midsomer Norton reached their target.
Another close game was fought out with Bedminster. Nailsea posted 157-2 after a solid platform was built by openers Tom Cressy (13) and Samuel Harrington (15), Shaun Williams and David McIlroy both scored a quick 25 and retired not out, leaving Joey Davies to smash some late boundaries. Again, in spite of a promising bowling performance with wickets being taken by Thomas Reid, Joe Smith, Ru Miller and A Train Rogerson, and looking out course for a win, after some big hitting Bedminster managed to get over the line in the final over. Encouraging signs all round and that first win will surely not be far away!
