UK Home Office Tightens Immigration Compliance Requirements
The UK Home Office has introduced a series of significant changes aimed at strengthening immigration compliance across the education and employment sectors.
Universities sponsoring international students must now meet stricter standards:
• Visa refusal rates below 5%
• Student enrolment rates of at least 95%
• Course completion rates of at least 90%
From Summer 2027, a new traffic-light rating system will assess compliance. Institutions with poor ratings may face recruitment restrictions or loss of their sponsor licence.
The Home Office is also increasing scrutiny of employers sponsoring overseas workers. Key compliance requirements include maintaining accurate records, reporting changes on time, conducting right-to-work checks, monitoring sponsored workers, and keeping recruitment records available for inspection.
With audits and compliance checks becoming more common, businesses relying on international recruitment should ensure their sponsorship processes remain robust and up to date.
International recruitment continues to play a vital role in addressing skills shortages across multiple sectors, but compliance obligations are growing.
