From 25 people to 950. Fifteen years in South Wales.

Renishaw has completed the first phase of a £70 million expansion at its Miskin facility west of Cardiff, lifting usable space to 617,000 sq ft. Once Hall 4 is fully operational, the site will reach 880,000 sq ft, making it one of the UK's largest advanced manufacturing facilities.

The company has now invested around £150 million at Miskin since buying the 193 acre site from Bosch in 2011. Today it runs 134 CNC machine tools producing around one million parts a month ⚙️. Demand from semiconductor equipment makers, plus AI driven appetite for its position encoders, means part of Hall 4 will be brought into use over the coming months.

Investment like this lands on the shop floor first. Machinists, programmers, process engineers and quality specialists are the people who turn new halls into output, and the UK needs more of them 🔧.

Galderma is moving deeper into the dermatologist's office.

The Swiss dermatology group has agreed to acquire ZO Skin Health for US$1.5 billion in an all cash transaction, buying out shareholders including Blackstone Tactical Opportunities and the Obagi family.

Founded by dermatologist Dr Zein Obagi, ZO generated around US$330 million in net sales in the twelve months to June 2026 and reaches more than 40 countries through over 16,500 physician, medical spa and online accounts. It sits neatly alongside Cetaphil and Alastin, giving Galderma a stronger hand in medical-grade skincare right next to its injectables business. Completion is expected in Q4 2026 or early 2027, subject to regulatory approval.

Medical-grade skincare is where clinical science meets the beauty shelf. Formulators, regulatory specialists and commercial leaders who understand both worlds are exactly the people deals like this rely on 🔬.

Zwitsal began in the 17th century as a Swiss balm that a pharmacy apprentice brought to the Netherlands 🇳🇱 Its famous yellow packaging arrived in 1974 💛 This week it got a new owner.

Unilever has sold the brand to Royal Sanders, the Dutch personal care group that already owns Odorex and Melkmeisje. The price was not disclosed.

Unilever's reasoning is simple. It wants to put its money behind brands with international reach, and Zwitsal is loved mainly at home. Calvé, Conimex and De Vegetarische Slager have already gone this year for the same reason.

For Royal Sanders, it is a brand that shoppers in its home market recognise instantly 👶 We see this often in personal care, where regional favourites end up with specialist owners who have more time to give them.

In March 2024, Galderma listed on the SIX Swiss Exchange 🇨🇭 Less than three years later, it has joined the Swiss Market Index alongside the country's largest listed companies. 👏

The numbers show how it got there 📈 Net sales went from US$4.41 billion in 2024 to US$5.21 billion in 2025, and sales in the first half of this year grew 24.6 per cent at constant currency. Its guidance for full-year growth is 19 to 21 per cent.

What stands out is that the growth is coming from injectables, dermatological skincare and therapeutic dermatology all at once 🔬✨

Few businesses sit so comfortably between life sciences and beauty.

That mix shapes who they need to hire too. In our experience, people who understand both the clinical science and the consumer side of skin care are hard to find.
