Ahead of International Day of Climate Action this weekend, we're taking the opportunity to celebrate the positive steps we're making together to build greener, more resilient communities.

Over the past six months, we've been exploring how underused areas of land across our communities could be transformed into spaces that support wellbeing, sustainability and local wildlife.

By listening to residents, community groups, schools and local partners, we've built a shared understanding of what matters most to local people and how these spaces could make a positive difference. We're particularly pleased to be working with Primary School's Eco Committee, giving young people a voice in shaping greener, healthier spaces for future generations.

From community growing spaces and orchards to biodiversity projects and tree planting, the ideas we've heard are helping to shape the future of these sites. This project is about more than improving green spaces. It's about bringing people together, supporting nature and creating places that communities can feel proud of for years to come.

Today, on the 60th anniversary of the Aberfan disaster, we remember the 116 children and 28 adults who lost their lives.

As we reflect on this profound loss, we stand with the Aberfan community in remembrance. We honour the strength, courage and resilience they have shown in the face of such unimaginable pain.

Our love and thoughts are with everyone affected, and with the generations who continue to carry the memory of those taken far too soon.

We will never forget them.
