Is recruitment becoming a price-led decision?

Across the recruitment industry, there is increasing focus on cost and fee structures, with some agencies competing primarily on price to win or retain business.

While lower fees can offer short-term savings, recruitment sold purely on price rarely creates long-term value.

For clients, reduced fees can mean less investment in search, candidate engagement, assessment and compliance. The result can be slower hiring, weaker appointments, increased turnover and higher costs over time.

For agencies, aggressive discounting can squeeze margins, limit investment in people and technology, and ultimately impact service quality. It also risks reinforcing the misconception that recruitment is a commodity rather than a professional service that directly influences business performance.

Competitive pricing has its place, but the strongest recruitment partnerships are built on outcomes, expertise and long-term results rather than discounts alone.

The organisations that consistently attract and retain the best talent tend to focus on value, quality and market insight, not simply the lowest fee.

What are you seeing in the market?

Is price becoming the deciding factor, or are businesses still prioritising quality and outcomes?

We were delighted to support Home-Start at their recent sponsored walk around Devizes and the surrounding villages.

The weather could not have been better, not too hot, not too cold, no rain, and a fantastic turnout from supporters across the local community.

It was great to see so many people coming together for such an important cause.

Home-Start provides vital support to families across Devizes, Melksham and the surrounding areas, helping parents who may be facing challenges such as isolation, mental health difficulties, financial pressures, or the demands of raising young children. Through trained volunteers and practical, compassionate support, they help families build confidence, strengthen relationships and create a positive home environment for their children.

As Devizes and Melksham are at the heart of New Resource Recruitment's core area, we are proud to support an organisation that makes such a meaningful difference to local families.

Our Industrial Client Services Manager recently took part in a football match at Ashton Gate, and it got us thinking...

Football and recruitment have more in common than you might think.

Success doesn't happen by chance. It takes preparation, teamwork, quick decisions and the ability to respond when challenges come your way.

In the industrial sector, our clients face constant pressure to keep operations running, meet demand and deliver results. That's where having the right people in the right positions makes all the difference.

Whether on the pitch or in the workplace, strong teams are built on reliability, commitment and trust.

As excitement starts to build ahead of the World Cup, it's a reminder that the best results always come from having the right team behind you.

If you're looking to strengthen your workforce and ensure your operation has the right people in the right roles, we'd love to help.

Foster Care Fortnight is an opportunity to recognise the importance of fostering and the positive impact stable support and encouragement can have on young people’s lives.

Several members of our own team are foster carers, and through this we’ve had the privilege of getting to know some truly inspiring young people.

Over the years, many have come to us for work experience, CV support, interview preparation and help in taking those first steps into employment.

Others simply pop in for a chat, to share life updates, successes and milestones, or just to say hello, and they are always welcomed as part of our wider work family.

Watching young people grow in confidence, develop new skills and achieve their goals is one of the most personally rewarding experiences for our team.

Being able to offer encouragement, practical support and a safe, supportive environment means a huge amount to us all.

Every young person deserves encouragement, opportunities and people who believe in them.

If you’ve ever thought about fostering, Foster Care Fortnight is a great opportunity to find out more.

One supportive adult really can make a lasting difference in a young person’s life.

At New Resource Recruitment, we are committed to continuous improvement, professional development, and investing in our people.

We’re delighted to congratulate our Industrial Divisional Manager, Gary Burke, on successfully completing his CPD Level 5 Diploma in Train the Trainer. 👏

This achievement further strengthens the expertise within our business and reinforces our commitment to delivering the highest standards of training, support, and development across our teams.

Gary’s qualification will benefit our colleagues through enhanced learning and mentoring opportunities, support our business through continued professional excellence, and ultimately provide even greater value to both our clients and candidates through improved knowledge sharing, training standards, and service delivery.

Well done Gary on this fantastic achievement.

(And before anyone asks, Gary’s a bit shy and didn’t want his photo taken… which of course we completely respect )

In celebration of National Pet Month, which runs annually across the UK from 1st April to 1st May, promoting responsible pet ownership, supporting animal charities, and celebrating the human–animal bond, we’ve been welcoming some very special “guest employees” into the office.

Our team have been taking it in turns to bring their pets in for a day out, and this week, it was Sauron’s turn.

Like any new recruit, Sauron started the day with a full company induction before settling in for a productive morning of client and candidate calls and lending a paw with some admin duties.

After a break for lunch, he joined our company strategy meeting, where he made a notable contribution, bringing fresh, canine-specific perspectives to the table.

After a busy day in the office, Sauron did what many of us in recruitment can relate to, he headed home, curled up, and enjoyed a very well-deserved sleep. Safe to say, he was exhausted.

We wouldn’t go as far as to say pets boost productivity… but the evidence is certainly building.
