🔑 How to up your job search game by partnering with an experienced recruiter 🔑

Job searching can feel like a full-time job in itself when you are in the midst of it. Updating your CV, networking on social media, searching for roles, applying for roles, attending inter...you get the drift! 😅

What if I told you that people like me can make things a whole lot easier? An experienced recruiter can make all the difference to your job search, when you link up with the right one 😉

Let me tell you how:

✅ Tailored Guidance - Struggling to perfect your CV or nail that interview? A good recruiter will offer personalised advice on how to enhance your documents and performance (and sometimes even edit or write your CV for you!), helping you present yourself at your best to potential employers.
✅ Save Time - Instead of applying to countless jobs and waiting for a response, a recruiter can help by matching you to opportunities ‘behind the scenes’ that directly meet your skills and career goals.
✅ Specific Industry Insights - Some recruiters specialise in specific industries, sectors or roles. Use their knowledge to understand who is hiring, what skills are in demand, and the salary expectations you can aim for.
✅ Exclusive Opportunities – This is one of the main benefits of partnering with recruiters. They often have access to exclusive job openings that aren’t being advertised publicly that you might not find on your own.
✅ Support Throughout the Process – Never underestimate this one! Whilst friends and family can regale you with their tales of job searching, a recruiter has often supported hundreds, if not thousands, of candidates through the process. Use their experience, knowledge and skills to help support you through from identifying your own competencies and accomplishments right the way through to salary negotiations.

If you’re on the lookout for your next role, consider teaming up with a recruiter who can help you navigate the process 😌 Feel free to get in touch with me directly via www.sorarecruitment.co.uk if you’d like help on your job search journey!

☝🏻 Changing Jobs? Here’s What You Can Negotiate 👇🏻

Landing a new job can be super exciting, and sometimes can cause additional stress and worry about making the most of the negotiation process. Changing jobs can offer a wonderful opportunity to negotiate the things that matter most to you – some of these are easier to talk about than others though!

Things You Can Negotiate:

🤝 Salary - Salary is usually negotiable, even when a job advert doesn’t suggest that it is. Do your research, know your worth, and don’t be afraid to ask for what you deserve.
🤝 Training & Development – Is growing your skills for your future career important to you?
🤝 Work-Life Balance - Flexibility is increasingly important to a lot of people.

Things You Might Struggle to Negotiate:

🤝 Company Policies - Some aspects, like standard company benefits or uniform policies, might be set in stone.
🤝 Core Job Responsibilities - The job itself is usually defined by the needs of the company, so altering the core responsibilities might be challenging, unless reasonable adjustments should be considered.
🤝 Organisational Structure: Changing who you report to, or the team’s structure could be difficult, as these are typically decisions linked to business strategy and goals.

Regardless of what you are planning to negotiate, I would suggest always approaching negotiations with a positive mindset 😃 Think of it as a collaborative discussion where you and your potential employer find the best fit for both sides.

Remember, both of you need to walk away feeling that you have negotiated what is important to you!

🔥 Exciting, More Flexible Time: Exploring a 9-Day Fortnight! 🔥

With work-life balance more important than ever, companies are embracing flexible work schedules. While the 4-day week is the dream for many, it’s not always practical. Enter the 9-day fortnight—the perfect middle ground 👌🏻

Teams get an extra day off every two weeks, boosting well-being, productivity, and engagement, all while keeping business running smoothly.

Flexible work is a game-changer. With 71% of professionals prioritising flexibility when considering new roles, a 9-day working fortnight would enhance any organisation’s Employee Value Proposition.

But of course, no major change comes without challenges.

Things to keep in mind:

👉🏻 Careful planning is needed to maintain seamless service on days when fewer staff are available.
👉🏻 Fair and equitable shifts are crucial to ensure everyone enjoys the benefits of a 9-day working fortnight.
👉🏻 Longer workdays may require an adjustment period. But with the right support, our team will be well-prepared to make the most of their extra day off.
👉🏻 Consider staggered schedules, clear communication, and even a pilot programme to test the waters.

By learning from others, planning carefully, and putting people first, you can create a thriving workplace where both productivity and well-being soar.

Embrace this opportunity!

🏆 How to Turn a Career Change “Mistake” Into Your Next Big Win 🏆

I recently spoke with some candidates who felt down after a career change didn’t go as planned 👎🏻

It made me wonder: how many others are feeling stuck after making a move that didn’t live up to expectations?

If you’re in that spot, here’s a little perspective shift that might help 👇🏻

Making a career change can be thrilling. But what happens when the new role doesn’t deliver?

Whether it’s a culture mismatch or the grass just isn’t greener, feeling regret is normal. But regret doesn’t have to hold you back 💪🏻

Here’s how you can turn that experience into an advantage:

1. It’s Not Failure, It’s Feedback!
2. Refocus Your Career Plan
3. Create a Game Plan

REMEMBER: Careers Are Long! 🕰️

One decision doesn’t define your entire career - people change paths all the time! What matters most is how you handle the transition. Reframing a misstep as an opportunity might just lead you to that dream role you’ve been aiming for… 🤩

💼 The UK Job Market is on the move! 💼

We all know that the days are gone of loyalty being all about staying in one job for years 👋 Working professionals nowadays are all about flexibility, adaptability, impressing their managers, peers and potential employers and continuously improving their skills.

This means there is MUCH more movement between roles than in yesteryear 🌪

It’s time to stop thinking long-term when it comes to your staff. Of course, it can be great to have people that thrive and stay in a role for decades, but it’s also key to embrace those that wish to follow a different path, and in doing so can actually make your organisation better 📈 By focusing on creating an engaging, learning based culture in your organisation, you’ll encourage all of your employees to both enjoy their work, and get the best out of them in return, even if it is for a shorter time than you’d ideally like.

As the world becomes more flexible to changing technology, environment and individual requirements, it becomes increasingly important to maximise the experiences you gain and the impacts you have so you can apply them in a range of different situations ☝🏻 Organisations should help their employees grow through these experiences and take advantage of the knowledge and skills that they have brought with them from their varied work in varied places 🧠🌍

🔒 Business Cross-Training: Unlocking Value, Longevity, and Employee Retention 🔒

Things move quickly in today’s business environment and organisations need to be more agile and flexible than ever 🤸‍♀️

Cross-training is most often associated with athletic training (think cross-fit!), but can be applied in a business setting to great effect ☝️

Cross-training offers significant benefits, both for employees and the business as a whole. These include increased agility and flexibility, as mentioned above, improved collaboration across teams, cost savings through reduced temp hiring or overtime pay and enhanced employee development, engagement and retention.

One of the most significant advantages of cross-training is that it helps ensure business longevity. Cross-training builds institutional resilience, reducing the risk of disruption when key employees depart or during sudden crises 🔑

A cross-trained workforce also promotes innovation and continuous improvement 📈

Investing in employees’ development through cross-training shows that the business values their growth. Offering learning opportunities can promote a culture of continuous improvement and career progression, which in turn boosts employee engagement and retention 🤝

Cross-training also provides employees with a sense of security. Knowing they have multiple skills makes them feel more valuable to the company and less vulnerable to job loss during periods of restructuring 👏

Finally, cross-training embodies the idea of giving something back to employees. It shows that the organisation is invested in their personal and professional growth. By equipping employees with a broad set of skills, the business empowers them to take on new challenges, grow their careers, and gain confidence in their abilities 🔥

Business cross-training is an essential strategy for building a more flexible, resilient, and engaged workforce. By giving employees the tools they need to succeed in various roles, businesses create a win-win situation—one where both the organisation and its people thrive!

📚 Getting Back into the Routine After Summer Shenanigans 📚

A renewed sense of energy and focus is a common ‘side-effect’ to returning to a structured work routine after the excitement, fun, and lets face it, sometimes hard work of the summer holidays 😅 Once the kids are back at school and festival season has come to a close, setting fresh goals and objectives and working out ways to hit your stride again become more of a priority 📈

Here are some tips to help you ease back into your routine and make the most of the fresh start!

⌚️ Take it easy - catching up on emails, reviewing upcoming deadlines, and reacquainting yourself with your tasks helps you regain your work rhythm without feeling stressed or overwhelmed.

⌚️ Set new professional goals by reflecting on what you’ve achieved so far this year and identify what you’d like to achieve by year’s end.

⌚️ Summer holidays often disrupt our regular routines, including exercise, sleep, and healthy eating. Replace Aperol Spritzes on the patio and lazing on a sun lounger with regular exercise, sufficient sleep, and a balanced diet. These habits will help you avoid burn out as you re-enter the world of work 🔑

⌚️ Work colleagues can act like human batteries sometimes. Schedule catch-up meetings, share holiday experiences, and discuss ongoing projects. Reconnecting with your team can really make the return to work more enjoyable 😊

⌚️ A positive mindset can make all the difference. Instead of viewing the end of summer as the end of relaxation, think of it as the start of a new chapter filled with opportunities 🤩

⌚️ As you work through the transition, don’t forget to celebrate your progress, no matter how small. Recognising your achievements along the way can keep you motivated and remind you of how far you’ve come.

Getting back into the routine after summer holidays doesn’t have to be difficult. Following the above tips can help make the transition smoother and more productive. An easy win! 👏🏻👏🏻
