Orbis Group recently partnered with Nic Giuli of Elevata Ventures for the latest edition of the AI Hub CTO Series, bringing together CTOs, Heads of Engineering and AI founders across financial markets and the wider technology space 🤖

We welcomed nearly 40 CTOs and Heads of Engineering, alongside a number of tech entrepreneurs working at the forefront of what is happening in AI.

The evening focused on some of the biggest conversations currently shaping AI and software engineering, from productivity and AI-assisted development through to governance, operational risk and the future structure of technology teams.

đź’¬ The event was held under Chatham House rules, but some of the key themes discussed throughout the evening included:

• Is AI making Software Engineers any more productive?
• How to measure software engineering productivity (and vanity metrics)?
• How much automation can now be done by End User “Citizen Developers” using AI
• Assessing the risks of End User AI Builds (“Vibe Coding”) according to “blast radius”
• How a professional Software Engineer can use AI Vibe Coding to increase productivity safely
• Do we still need CTOs, &/or IT mid level managers?
• How can an AI “Meta Harness” help
• Moving security to zero trust and infection tolerance to combat AI enabled adversaries
• What are the strategic bets in AI for 2026?

Yishai Beeri of LinearB spoke on Productivity Metrics, Ben Wootton of Coex shared his experience around AI builds, and Rich Tong of TNE gave an update on recent developments and future projections within the space. A huge thank you as well to everyone who contributed so openly throughout the evening.

As always, one of the best parts of these events is bringing together people who are genuinely close to the market and creating space for honest conversations around the challenges, opportunities and realities of AI adoption right now.

Thank you to our hosts at Man Group, particularly Gary Collier, James Blackburn and Paulina Liutke, alongside everyone involved in making the evening happen.

Looking forward to the next AI Hub CTO event with Julian Levy of Elevata Ventures and our own Henry Hickley already đź‘€

AI hiring is no longer just about building long-term teams. Increasingly, it is about delivery.

As businesses race to implement AI across products, operations and internal workflows, many are realising that traditional hiring models alone cannot move quickly enough to support the pace of change.

That is one of the biggest reasons contractors are becoming far more central to AI delivery strategies.

In this week’s blog, we explore why AI hiring is becoming increasingly project-led, why specialist contract talent is in such high demand and how businesses are combining permanent teams with flexible expertise to accelerate delivery.

We’re also seeing a significant increase in demand for contract talent across AI, engineering, infrastructure and transformation here at Orbis, with businesses looking for specialists who can add value quickly within fast-moving delivery environments.

AI hiring is moving so quickly that many businesses are struggling to clearly define what they are actually hiring for.

“AI Engineer” has become an increasingly broad title, but the difference between building models, integrating AI into products and delivering AI operationally is huge and that lack of clarity is starting to create real hiring challenges across the market.

In this week’s blog, we explore why AI hiring is becoming more of a definition problem, how AI roles are evolving and what businesses are starting to prioritise as AI adoption accelerates.

One thing we’re placing a much bigger focus on this year is showing more of the people behind Orbis and giving a better insight into the team and culture that sits behind the business day to day.

A lot of our growth has come from the relationships we build, the communities we create and the people within the business, so moving forward we want to do a better job of showing that externally too.

This also ties closely to one of our core values, Be Real. Whether it’s how we work with clients, support each other internally or build personal brands across the business, authenticity is something that genuinely matters to us.

This week, we had Ridhish in the office filming b-roll, interviews and behind-the-scenes content with the team as we continue investing more into personal branding and creating content across the business. 🎥

Looking forward to sharing more of the team, the personalities behind Orbis and everything happening across the business over the coming months.

Monthly Breakfast Club 🍽️

At Orbis, we believe strong performance should be recognised and celebrated.

Each month, Breakfast Club is our way of recognising the people who have exceeded target and consistently delivered at a high level. It’s a chance to step away from the day-to-day, celebrate success together and recognise the hard work that goes into achieving it.

It also reflects two of our core values that run through the business, Inspire Excellence and Exceed Expectations.

Consistency matters and so does recognising the people who continue to raise the bar.

A well-earned breakfast and a great way to celebrate the team.

Are businesses hiring people, or are they hiring outcomes?

More organisations are moving away from traditional headcount planning and rethinking how work gets delivered.

Instead of defaulting to permanent hires, many teams are turning to SOW models, contract talent and outcome-based hiring to access specialist expertise, reduce long-term risk and keep delivery moving.

It’s a shift we’re seeing more frequently across technology, data, product and transformation environments.

In our latest blog, we explore what’s driving it and why this approach is becoming more common in 2026.
