If your cover letter starts with “I’m excited about this role,” you’re doing it wrong.

Cover letters aren’t dead. Done well, they’re the secret weapon that can land interviews. Done poorly, they vanish into a black hole.

How to write one that works:

1. Hook them immediately – Your first line must grab attention. Show confidence or curiosity.
2. Show impact, not duties – Use numbers and outcomes. “Managed a team of 10” → “Led a team of 10 to achieve 20% growth in 6 months.”
3. Keep it short & structured – One page max, three paragraphs. Clear, confident, concise.
4. Replace clichés with value – “Excited about the role” → “Here’s how I can solve your biggest challenge…”
