As an international law firm, Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer advises some of the world’s most well known businesses. For graduates keen to pursue a career in commercial law, the firm offers challenging work that demands a strong intellect and a desire to help ambitious businesses achieve long-term success. The firm provides clients with a global service from its network of offices across Europe, t

he Americas and Asia. Graduates who accept a training contract with the firm have the opportunity to experience up to eight areas of law – twice the number offered by most law firms. The training is largely provided from the firm’s London office but many trainees will also spend time on secondment to a client or to one of the firm’s US, European or Asian offices. The lawyers work in teams, often of no more than three: a partner, an associate and a trainee. Whatever clients want to achieve, the team’s job is to work out how. Is it possible? What will be the most effective way of structuring the deal or tackling the problem? What are the risks? How should it be documented? Background, university, and the degree studied are immaterial. But every successful candidate has three qualities that are non-negotiable: intellectual talent, excellent English (written and verbal), and a generous spirit. Before a training contract starts all graduates complete the Legal Practice Course; and non-law graduates also need to take the Graduate Diploma in Law before the LPC. The firm meets the cost and provides a maintenance grant for both. The firm pursues premium, cross-border work that is nearly always complicated. This means that the learning curve is steep, so the graduates who do best are those who like to be challenged.

Happy Diwali! ✨

Diwali, also known as the Festival of Lights, is observed for five days each year by Hindus, Sikhs, Jains and Buddhists worldwide. Originating in India more than 2,500 years ago, the celebration symbolizes the triumph of light over darkness.

In recognition of this festive time, our Asian Affinity Network recently hosted a Rangoli evening - an Indian art form where bright patterns are created using coloured rice, powder or other materials to represent the happiness, positivity and liveliness of a household, traditionally welcoming Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth and good luck.

We wish you and your families lots of light, joy and prosperity!

Black History Month in the UK is celebrated every October, recognising the history, culture, and achievements of Black people.

This year’s theme, “Reclaiming Narratives”, is a heartfelt call to action, to ensure that Black voices are truly heard, experiences acknowledged, and contributions celebrated.

Over the course of the month our Black Affinity Network hosted a range of events across our London and Manchester offices to spotlight the unheard stories, the uncelebrated heroes, and the ordinary individuals within the Black community who have left lasting impact on our wider community.

Here’s a sneak peek to what we got up to! ➡️
